How loud is your bigbore

I imagine there is no TKO for the bigbores. How loud are they really?
ear muffs loud? I want to get a big bore and am just wondering if the DB's can be tamed
or if folks will hear me from miles around.
Also any actual decibel meter readings?
I have a pack of yotes in a field that leads to a canyon near my house and they have been eating cats and small dogs
Just want to help my neighbors and my biggest caliber is .25 marauder

Relatively loud, but nothing too bad, you can shoot a big bore pretty close to habitation and they wont hear you the sound don't carry anywhere near what firearms do, if i think my big bores are loud, than I shoot my Glock 19 and really I realise they aren't at all.

Koreans big Bores come with a treaded barrel to screw LDCs on them and there's a few specialized guys that make them for those guns

 Yup, a feller i know had an LDC made for his 9mm korean and says it is quite pleasant now to shoot. J

I have a Dragon Slayer 50 and it is a bunch louder than anything else I have. Not as loud as a 410 shotgun  but will get some notice from guys 30 or so yards away. At the last SW Ohio fun shoot I had this one on hand for the guys to check out and shoot a bit. One young man was working and got there a little later than the rest of us. We had already fired the Dragon and moved on to other rifles. Any way he wanted to see and shoot it also so I said sure. Got the rifle out and told him a little about the operation etc and told him to take a shot or two without warning the others. Needless to say it got their attention.

I would say my 202s is about the same as a 22lr but instead of a pop it is more of a boom.  Out in open country at 100yrds it is like a hammer hitting a board and 200 yds away its almost unnoticeable.  I have shot it at my parents house and their neighbors are about 200 yrds away and they cannot hear it in their house.

 Below is a Air Gun Db List  Made @ a Big Bore Shoot and all the sound levels are a lot louder than I thought they would be ( In Db ) I would have to say that it depends on Caliber and size of "What you are Shooting and out of what and Where". My Haley .58 Boomer is at least 100 Db.I also feel that my Sam Yang .456 is also close to the 100 Db. The Db Chart below had the Sound level information gathered at the 1998 Big Bore shoot at Damascus, MD. Courtesy Steve Lewis. My 2240 is another loud Gun that IMO is close to the 100 Db Mark.

Manny very nice pistol those Glock's . I have shot almost every Glock except the Glock 18. Shot the heck out of Beretta 92 or M9, As well as my trusty Colt series 70- 45-acp-100 yrs battle proven worthy- ness 1911 that is-one hard pistol too beat for sure........

Jetman, Thanks for posting that table.  Several of those guns are at the point where hearing protection is imperative.
Here are a couple of tidbits to go along with your chart.

An increase of 3 db is barely perceptible, 5 db is clearly perceptible, and 10 db is twice as loud.

Home lawn mower is 100db, close to a train is 110 db, thunder or deisel engine room is 120 db, 130 is a pneumatic rock drill. 140 is artillery fire, jet aircraft.

130 db is threshold of pain and anything greater than 130db can cause immediate and permanent hearing damage. Unlike a broken bone or a cut finger, hearing damage in totally irreversible. It will never get better.

i hope the text is within limits otherwise correct me please.

 i used a LDC on the fire 202 saturday and i noticed that the tighter pellets gave less noise then the ones who went in easy. They were all seposed to be .362 roundballs.

Other thing that might have helped reducing the sound is, when putting the Fire together again, i used a bit of silicone gasket maker type 613 on top/under and sides of the TP so the connections breech,tp valvepipe became fully sealed off.
The reason i did that was because i got the idea i heared two sourches of the blast when shooting in std configuration without the LDC.

I know i could search for better O-rings but they are harder to get then the good old blue silicone gasket maker.
the residu will be blasted out.
On this location i can use silicongasket maker;not on others to keep the high pressure inside
This for the record ...

The TP is drilled to 6mm and the has some extra weight due to the larger handle and i gave the hammerspring some extra preload with two spacers.

With the tighter roundball there was just the impact sound.......a least it sounded that way on the range....
My son asked if i fired yet, several times.



Offtopic but related
A thing of attention is the top of the breech going on the TP.
There is the scoperail on it, held with 2 screws.  Incorrect adjustment can make the scoperail out of line  with the barrel and give therefore a scope that is hard to site in, in height
The std sites on the barrel work well within 50m instead of using a scope.

My xp ranger 45 is a boomer !  shooting at up to 4500 psi , last weekend i out shot 45 cal / 40 caliber hand guns with my ranger  , the guy with the 45 semi-a--hand gun  shot a 230 grain at 825 fps while the ranger was shooting a 255 grain at 940 fps on low power 3200 psi !  low power !

the ranger is louder than my 909 sam yang for sure

the ranger shooting 540 grain  on the Taylor chart scores a 30, on the ko

a 240 grain shot out of a 44 magnum hand gun  scores a 20

Depending upon the power setting, the Rogue has a sound level around 88Db.  It's fully shrouded and in our field tests on prairie dogs, the dogs had no idea they were targets because they couldn't hear us.

             LDC is a Lead Dust Collector, And it is mounted to the end of the Barrel on an Air Gun to Change the Music to a
             much more tolerable song. There are many different styles. An LDC mounts several ways, The most common are

Well, I wrote Anthony Storey and he told me that he had a LDC that worked on a .45 cal big bore, it was 1.5' in diameter and anywhere from 10" to 12" in length, and would reduce the report up to 60%... So I ordered a LDC from him.. will let you know how it turns... Imagine a .58 cal shooting 820 grn slug at about 700FPS... about 900 FPE... and quiet LOL... I hope soo...

            I am happy you called Anthony Story on a Big Bore LDC. He, IMO make one of the best LDC with the most sound
            Reduction. His Product is a work of "ART" also, The LDCs Performance is up there with its Looks. I have several
            Anthony Story Custom LCDs on two of my Big Bore Rifles and they are very Impressive and are second to none.
