MTR77 "Chronicles".....Accuracy testing.

I never really looked into this guns because I figured the stock would be really flimsy and cheap ( The stock on the BullDog was just like that )

Than I realised that they are the same powerplant as my Titan so I ordered one.

I was immediately very pleased once I picked the gun out the box, the stock feels great, solid and well made.

The gun is nice and light, short and a pleasure to handle.

Didn't have much time to shoot since the last few days I was busy painting my truck 






I did set up the rifle with a set of Open sights and bee having a ton of fun plinking at stuff





Been using a tin of Discovery pellets to brake the gun in




She's still smoking a bit, in a few days I will Chrono her to see if she's up to par then I'll get a scope on and start testing accuracy.

the only minor complain is that the Mag rattles a bit but nothing that a bit of shimming with electrical tape wont fix 


I'm not even sure I'll get a gold trigger on since I find the OEM trigger pretty good to me, only need to shorten the pull a bit

I felt like I did enough shooting to have the gun farely broken in so today was time to do some Chrono testing





I was testing 3 pellets, Crosman Premier 10.5gr A.A. Diabolo heavy 10.3gr and H&N Baracuda 10.65gr

I'm very impressed with the power and spread of the Baracuda, time to get a scope on and start accuracy testing.

I will not even bother with the AAs or the CPs, I will go straight to the Baracudas and if they shot anywere near as accurate as they do in the Titan this gun will see duty in the field as sub 20 yards small hog hunter

The gun is breaking in Manny.  I wouldn't be surprised if it went up a little more to 18fpe.  Give it another 100-200 pelets and I bet the extreme spread will be less too, hopefully well under 20fps.  I bet the H&N Cuda fits better in the breach too.  Looks like the Crosman 10.5 might fit a little loosely wasting air.

I am curious, does the charging handle do anything or is it stationary or part of the frame?   Gun looks good!

I already have the real thing x3, and I think if I owned this model airgun that looks 95% like my AR's, I might pick up the real one before I have my coffee one day thinking I got an airgun in my hands

 Sounds like Manny is off to a better start with his MTR .177 than I was, mine wouldnt group no matter what sighting system I installed or hold or loose stock screws. then one day i was plinking around with ti and heard a psst sound , looked over @ my John Deere AMT " one of them old 5 wheeled things" thinking I some how shot my tire. Low n behold I tried to cock the gun again and the nitro piston went limp, so ordered a new one installed , and now it shoots like never before.

Those standard NP's are surprisingly powerful while remaining fairly compact.
 
Really about all the power I want out of a springer.

I think you right I might have 200 rounds into it so it's probably still breaking in, I'm already happy with the power but if it start shooting consistently at around 875 fps it would beat my expectations, the Titan has a spread of less then 10 fps so possibly this gun will get closer to that.

The Crosman Premiers actually are tight, the Air Arms are kinda lose and the H&N Baracuda fit just perfect

......Charging handle ? what is that ? ...yeah love the looks of the gun, the plastic is solid and well made.

I didn't do any accuracy testing yet ( probably tomorrow I'll start )

Do you have the parts number for the Nitro piston ? ......I want to get a couple of spares to keep around just in case, for this and my Titan.

Yep 18 FPE is plenty good in my books .....I see some Hogs on the future of this gun

Ok, so I did a good barrel cleaning today and put a nice scope on the gun then started accuracy testing.





I shot a lot of rounds and at 20 yards accuracy is,...........Terrible, all over the place.

I have 2 options now, send the gun back and get something else or get the action off the stock and try accuracy in my Titan stock,
I have reservations anytime the rail is attached to the plastic stock rather then the action itself.

Not very happy right now, I'm going down to shoot more and think

Well looks like I threw away the receipt with the box so returning the gun looks out the door 

I took the gun out the stock



Contrary to my assumption the weaver rail is actually welded to the action




......so I got the Tuna trigger on




Put the gun back together ( ho yeah, couldn't put it in my Titan stock because the forehand screws are tapped at a different angle )

......Put the gun back together and off I went to shoot again and this time accuracy was,........still terrible 

Right now all I can do is continue shooting and hope that with a few 100s of pellets thru the barrel something will change.

Not very happy right now.

Maybe the bore needs to be lapped or the crown polished.

Manny, Methinks maybe you need to go back to the NP2 platform. You have already proven it on a hog. The Summit NP2 has a traditional stock that is just a tad heavier than the Trail and about $50 cheaper.

 I had bad accuracy,only thing i did was replace the nitro piston, and now 30 yard pester all day long, don't think I adjusted or modified anything else ,  on purpose any how

 I even re-used the original piston seal, hmmm speaking of seals how does the breach seal look?

Maybe you should try shooting it completely without stock. Just rest the action on sandbags and see if its still equally inaccurate. I had one springer that was horribly bad with the stock but shot fine without, it just needed careful bedding. Have you checked for stock-barrel contact points?

I did, tried several different pellets today and the bed groups from the Baracudas where still the best overall.

Gonna shoot the heck out of it for the next couple days and see if it gets any better.
