Best bang for the buck PCP under $700.00

We are getting a little off track, but it did give me some time to investigate the suggestions given so far. I have now set my budget at $1000 for gun, tank, hand pump (??), and misc.
Scopes I have from other weapons can be used initially.

I apologize for getting side tracked.

An HW110 would be a very nice option with your new budget.  I have read good things about them and Chicky has first hand experience.  I don't know the size of the HW110 air cylinder but I imagine it would be similar to the Marauder volume.  Also since the HW110 is regulated you do not have to fill to to the max cylinder pressure.  That will only give you more shots between pumping sessions.

Keith you're lucky to have access to a compressor, I've got a couple of SCBA tanks that I made my own fill adaptor for, about once a month or less I'll get them both topped off for $10 but they're the 88 cubic ft ones so when I do go hunting I'll put my hand pump behind the seat of my truck in case I get carried away with some plinking while I'm hunting. Between both tanks and the adaptor I've got $280 invested but some day I might even buy me a good compressor, not today though

That's a good 'short list', for sure...

I own, or have owned, all except the Sumatra, which is also a gun I would like to have, but have no real need for at this time, ha ha!

My Varmints arrive tomorrow, hopefully they will live up to the low-dollar, high-satisfaction hype, lol.

Chickie I had my .22 Varmint out today for a short jaunt at the state land, the mosquito's were entirely overwhelming and I just had to leave but before I left I spotted a chipmunk going up and then back down a tree about 20 yards away, I decided it was time to empty the pellet I had chambered and let him have it.  You're really going to be surprised how accurate the .22 is I'm sure.

I may be a little late to this, and more novice than most on here, but I recently purchased my first PCP after years with Pumpers and a few Springers.

Found an incredible deal on the Marauder 22 at Airgun Depot about a month ago for $386 out the door w/ tax and shipping total!  After looking at reader reviews between Airgun Depot and Pyramid Air, Pyramid Air matched the "out the door" price.

Had the Mrod sighted in with a Centerpoint scope within 10 shots.  Shoots less than quarter size groupings at 30 yards.  Only thing I regret are the quarter sized holes I put in my Sweetgum tree.

For some reason, my Mrod loves Crosman premiere hollow points the best.

Did not splurge for a tank, yet grabbed a Taousa pump and moisture kit.  Although I have no issues pumping up the Mrod, some day down the road I may bite the bullet and pick up a tank.

Somebody else posted earlier to purchase the top end of your choices rather than buy low.  I was thinking the Maximus or the Discovery at first, but trusted my better judgment and went the Marauder.  Two words:  NO REGRETS!!!

If you like doing mods and hop ups and working on the gun, buy cheap and have fun making your Frankenstein, if you hate working on a project and want something ready to go out of the box, buy higher end and have the gun you want without having to do anything but fill, shoot and of course maintain...... it's up to you, you'll have fun either way you go....

My top three fun guns for hunting are the Prod, Varmint and the Airmax MKII.  I can't really say I like one of them best either, because they're all sooo much fun to shoot.  I've got a Mrod that I did mods on and it's doing 50fpe right now but it is a .25 and it is about twice the weight of the other three, they all are great guns but when trekking through the woods like I do a lot the extra weight is unwanted.  The main thing that I really like about the Varmint is it came out of the box with plenty of knockdown power with no mods.

I don't know what shipping would be or if there would be any customs tax, for the cost of the gun I would think customs might make you declare it for sales tax, depends on your state, unless Krale states it as a gift or Hobby Parts under $30.00.....? I know China likes to come up with some unique declarations for customs.......

I'm sure it's a very nice gun, and you would not have to do any mods, my HW100 is it's big brother and it is my favorite, super accurate, straight out of the box perfection, but not cheap..... there's a lot of nice guns out there, some you might want to mod, but mods cost money, some great right out of the box, as they always say "You Get what you pay for" in most cases, there are some fine guns for a reasonable price to be found, it's just depends on what you are willing to spend......
but don't take it as " Expensive means good", look for the deals on quality.

I agree fully with Kevin's advice - which gun depends on if you want to have fun modifying it and making it your own, or if you want something just right for your needs on arrival. Also of course it depends on the weight you want the rifle to be, as well as its power level, inherent accuracy and shot count.

Because I had read such positive things about the Benjamin Discovery in terms of its low cost, inherent accuracy, and light weight, and because there are plenty of aftermarket parts available to make it more powerful and to improve the shot count, I opted to buy a used Discovery and modify it to my liking. I have had great fun transforming my humble Discovery and for less than $400 I now have a rifle that looks nice, is very light weight, is powerful with a good shot count, and is extremely accurate.

Good guns those BSA Scorpions and very accurate. Loads of aftermarket stuff available as well as tuning information if you like tinkering. They also work well straight out of the box if you just want to shoot. There have been some lemons but that goes for higher priced guns as well.

I have a Scorpion SE 1200 and it is a little heavy but very nice none the less.  But I got it at a crazy Amazon final price of $509.  If you are not in a hurry, waiting for deals will save you a lot of money.  I have a Huma regulator to install that I haven't had a chance to yet.

I bought a used firefighter scba 30 minute tank with 4 years of life left for around $80.  They're normally $40 more expensive.  A hand pump can be bought for less than $70 if you shop smart.  You will also need an hpa fill station.  You can build one for around $140. 

I think the HW110 is the best deal on a regulated rifle.  It is available from Aceros De Hispania Krale Schietsport for around $911 depending on what the current Euro exchange rate is.  I wish it came in wood but that is what I would buy and I am saving for one.

I have bought cheap rifles.  I have bought rifles that I knew I was going to mod from the get go.  They are both important aspects of this hobby and have their place and have taught me a lot.  I can't say that from what I know now I would have bought the HW110 and been done.  That is not what the hobby is too me.

The hobby is different for everyone.  So in the end it is up to you Keith.  There are a lot of members than can give you their experiences whichever way you choose.

Some what backyard friendly although a large backyard closest neighbors are several hundred feet away side to side nothing behind.
I have a 10 meter range in my basement and would like to be able to shoot indoors in the winter months.
And a gun that can be hand pumped when necessary.

Keith if you don't want to tinker get the Scorpion SE, Brocock, Daystates.   All my guns shot great right out of the box zero tinkering needed.    I prefer to spend my time shooting and not tearing it apart to make it what it should have been out of the box.

But 1,000 is low mark to get what you want.   You can't have it all.  Some guys will say "Oh its no problem, I climbed K2 and mount everest, I pump all my 3,000 PSI gun by hand, no problem, its easy.   Well don't listen to them.  I know quite a few people with 300.00 pumps (I am one of them) that collect dust.     Its a nice thought that you can do it but get a 2000 psi gun if you are really serious about pumping a gun.  It gets old fast.

Start looking at Air tanks the the true cost of one.   
They have a 15 year life then you toss them.  No one will fill them past that and they have to be hydroed every 5 years.
Sure some people will buy a compressor (only good ones are 2,000 and up)  and fill old expired tanks.   
Careful on Ebay too, that is a  minefield of expired old tanks.   And if you find one that you think might be a good deal you will probably want to ask here if "this is a good deal" then the people who you ask will all buy the good deal out from under you.

New tanks Omega - is 550.00 74 CuFt.   My buddy just bought one after getting disillusioned searching ebay for used tanks.   And those used tanks don't have the proper fitting so then you are out looking for fittings and hoses etc. 

Your budget of 1,000 is not much.  Lower the gun to 450.00 ish.   No free lunch here.   The start up costs of PCPs is not cheap.  Once you get a decent tank then its not bad.   

I'd set budget higher and get a better gun and decent tank. 

If you want cheap just get a Maxiumus + hand pump.   That is doable and you will shoot pellet in pellet in your indoor range as good as a $2,000 gun.
