COMETA FENIX 400 ..WOW!

Hi all,
I picked up a little used Fenix 400 today in .177 cal. It has only fired 100 or so pellets but other than that it has sat in a cupboard. When I picked it up I could see a little rust on barrel and receiver which was a shock for a year old gun. I guess it never got a whiff of an oily rag but it is what it is, it came with Hawke match mounts and 4*32AO scope. Got the guy down to $300 kiwi so a good deal. Raced home to get the life giving Ballistol out and clean soft cloth and set to work. 30 minutes of work and all rust gone! WOW!  Breach seal and breach face looked brand new just a wee wipe with ballistol sweet as. Oiled the ball bearing lock up, tightened all the screws top to bottom and took it outside. 3 shots at 15 yards had it on the bulls eye and boy does this little beast pack a wallop. No mechanical twang or vibration just a sharp crack. What a great buy I had heard the Fenix was good but it is much better than I expected. I might even buy a new one down the line I am so impressed. Forgot to mention the two stage trigger is great, no need to touch it just a little first stage and a little pressure on second stage and she's away. I should have bought one years ago. Woodwork and metalwork is excellent. We'll done Cometa.

What I understand is that Cometa's are great air rifle's but very under rated... Seems that their barrels are great and the build quality up to German standards.

And this is topical to me. Is it true Cometas from Spain are no longer being produced?

Mark that sounds like a good get!  Is it a strong hitter?  Is the stock nice wood?  I have a Cometa Fenix 400 variant in .22 and it shoots some pellets harder than the Marauder in .22.  Mine took some work to make the moving parts agree to work together, but now a couple years later, it's one of my favorite springers to shoot.  I love that they made the automatic safety easy to use.  The safety is good and reliable, but is easy to turn off.

Not true.

Cometa does almost every last bit of manufacturing in-house, and every part is sourced in Spain.  LINKY

I used to have a RWS94 which is the Cometa 400.  It was a very nice shooter, accurate and smooooth.  I often think of getting another.  The only things keeping me from doing so are the lack of scope stop and the memory of the sear cracking.  Seems like I heard a few others had the same problem.  Not sure if they fixed that, so be careful.  It was scary when it happened, many misfires until I figured out what was going on.

Skillet, it hits VERY hard..suprised me really and I have other full power guns. No restrictions on stringers here in New Zealand so full power is easily 18 ftlbs...I think it is more powerful than my Crosman TR 77 nps. It puts JSB Exact 8.44 pellet on pellet at about 50 feet. Wood is nice and dark and the checkering on the pistol grip is very nice indeed.
