not sure what you're asking... are both springs "stock" just one is used? 1/4" is a lot of compression set!
Is the wire thickness the same? same # of coils?
Was this gun used? might not be a stock spring then. Does the gun have a power adjuster? if yes, it's not uncommon to use a slightly shorter spring if you want too remove all spring preload with the power adjuster backed out all the way.

Depends on the wire thickness, and how close the spring is to being stacked when cocked. If it's heavier than the OEM spring. it will also make cocking harder, and probably waste air.

I'm using a heavier 00. 40 spring that's 1.75 inches long right now. I was just wondering why it's not 2 inches like a stock spring I'm using a 1032 machine screw for a power adjuster

At the risk of being obvious, because that's what you bought/were sold. Did someone sell it as a replacement? It's possible that if there is a little slack you " might" have less hammer bounce.

I was told a heavier spring from the hardware store was just like the one's sold online it isn't so i took the spring out and it only measures 1.5 inches now so I put the stock spring back in. I'll order a good spring that's tempered correctly from discos R us asap. sorry to of wasted anybodys time I'm new to this

Discos R us is the way to go! I ordered an adjuster from him, and he sent a spring for testing. Very happy with it!

The only dumb question is the one not asked. "I" needed context to the question, and was really not knocking the question. There are alot of choices for springs for the Disco, and many of them work, but will change where your fill point will be and the shot curve/power output. The Maximus uses a shorter stiffer spring and works pretty well. Do a search on Disco ssg and you may find some interesting reading.

I ordered a heavy spring for my Disco, cant remember who from, It was a 1\4' shorter than the stock spring. It worked fine though.
