Hammer Ping

with the addition of a Neil Clague moderator, my Brocock Concept is quiet enough that now i hear the hammer ping. 

having owned a PCP for only about 6 months now, i'm not knowledgeable in de-pinging hammers.

does any one know how i myself can remedy this?

would it be better to work on the hammer the same time i install a regulator?

i'll hang up and listen for my answer...

Hammer ping ( NOT Valve or air tube ping ) comes from two places.
That being the spring which can be left twanging similar to a spring piston gun twang ...
That of the hammers metal on metal TINK when striking the valve poppet ...

Hammer springs can have a better fitted rear guide post fitted or given room a small piece of foam such as ear plug in the middle of spring that will help damp the vibration.

Metal on metal TINK pending hammer type and material hardness be fitted with a Tough material such as PEEK that becomes the strike surface on hammers face & that kills this noise dead !

i may have described it wrong.  it's the same sound i hear when watching other's videos where the camera is mounted on the rifle.  it sounds like a resonance in the air reservoir tube.  hollow sounding.

Lol ... In an UNREGULATED pcp this is the problematic VALVE PING that is created by the valve when cracked open making a PING that reverberates down the length of air tube.

IN TUBE DE-PINGER required !
* Search De-Pinger and you will find what you seek

Installing the regulator you mentioned will take care of that ping without an additional "depinger". If you want to go that route.

Thank you Scot for explaining the spring ping, that is exactly what I hear now that I have a BNM kit on the discovery.  Better (tighter) fitting internal spring guide.  Need to see how much room there is for a guide.   Assuming guide should be .002 or .004 over size of spring id or do I have that wrong?

In SPRING PISTON gun yes you can get away with an interference fit between spring I.D. and guide because coils open up slightly once compressed into the assembled gun and spring energy is so much.

On a spring driving hammer in a PCP or other pneumatic type gun firing mechanics, Due to low spring energy and CONSISTENCY of the energy and speed in which hammer gets thrown at the valve poppet ... WE DO NOT want any drag created by a snug guide.  You can set em up O/O close that when assembled with a bit of pre-load free's up a tad, but no tighter !!

I am thinking  that bad shape of valve produce the  ping .
Only some guns do the PING.  .  Look on  the misfortunate/bell  shape of JKhan noblesse valve.
Putting  HUMA regulator  help well but not absolutely.

IMO ... more a hammer strike speed and subsequent frequency of the air blast across seat produced by valve as it opens & closes.
