Crosman 38C

I don't know if this qualifies as vintage or not. If not, Mods, please remove. It is a Crosman 38C .177 Cal. It appears to have been manufactured between 1973-76 and appears to be in good shape and functional.  What else can you tell me about it? Thanks.

Your dates are for the earlier .22 version.

Funny how this thread shows up on the day a guy the local gun shop asked me if I wanted another pellet gun. He said it's a Crosman Combat 22 from when he was a kid, and it doesn't work. If I bring him a large coffee with double cream, I can have it. I pick it up on Thursday! For the price of a $1 coffee at McDonalds, it's at least worth that. 👍


UPDATE: Just checked Gunbroker, and Dennis Baker has two of these in .177 for sale, both non working and he will not repair. Selling as collectibles/parts only. One is $50 and the other is $80 asking prices. Dennis must know something about the value, even as non working collectibles. I also read that Crosman no longer has repair parts available. I guess mine will make a nice wall hanging of a buck!

I took mine apart to find a leak in the tube between the C02 and valve, I soldered it and it works great.

Ditto I paid $25, but it worked with a slow leak from the C02 tube.
I would buy them for $1 all day long if I could, even though they are a pain to load the pellets.

  Maybe there are pellets that load better than the ones I've tried, out of 6 a couple always want to go in sideways instead of laying on their sides.

Mine is very accurate also.

Got my 38C First Variant (metal rear sight) today for a large coffee with double cream. Smashing deal! It's a .22 with some issues, so I have it torn down to see if I can get it to shoot and hold air. I could tell when I opened it up that someone had been in the gun at some point. Too many tool witness marks tell the story. The only external defeat is that half of the rear sight is broken off. At first I thought it might be a second variant with the plastic sight, but a magnet sticks to it. Here's AirGun #23 in the inventory.

Hi All -- i have just completed a full refurbish of a .22 38C and its proving to be a great wee gun to have fun with. I am also currently restoring a .22 1st variant 38T which has the metal cylinder. I am missing the long metal rear sight and would be keen to hear from anyone who may have one to sell or trade as i have a few 38C / 38T parts including some new (old stock) hammers.
I have also previously owned the .177 models and agree that they are a bit fiddley to load but the .22 models  seem more suited to my older fingers.

I resealed both the 177 and an older .22 38 T, the .22 I have is a cannon for the first 20 shots. They seal easy as long as that copper tube is good, I've had a few the previous owners dug into and mangled the fittings at the end of the tubes. They're definitely fun and a metal chunk of a gun.

With any luck, you can get by with replacing the donut seal that seals the tip of the Co2 ctg.
I’d replace the piercing unit as well. I last bought these from Tim McMurray, he sells both together as a set.

They deserve life. LOL That's me too. I don't think I have ever got into one for more than Blue Book though.

Hey if I can be any help with parts for these old 38T/C let me know. I have any thing from frames to the rear metal sights complete or just parts for the rear sight. Don't have many grips or valve bodies. Send me part numbers and description please.
