Should I be concerned that a bristle will come off and screw things up?
The cross-flow depinger from WAR will not impact your shot curve/string. I have used the earlier aluminum version, but the latter 3D printed one should work the same.

A drill should also be run through the holes. Just be careful, as this process causes more little plastic burrs and cling-ons, so you've got to be diligent to make sure it's free of them before final install. I was highly disappointed in the product, but would buy an aluminum one if it were an option. It seems to work, though.

I would be afraid of a bristle falling off, and getting lodged in the valve, keeping it from being able to seal.
It should be very smooth if you got a rough one it was by mistake and should be returned.
I did order three of them. I cleaned and installed two of them. Here is the third... and is what all of them looked like.
