Hi all,
I'm new to the site and have some questions about my recently inherited my grandfather's "Ted Williams model 799-190760 .22 cal pellet RIFED BARREL" sold by sears in the late 70's or 80's. How rare is this gun? I'm having trouble finding info on it and would like to get it shooting again. The gun is in excellent condition with a gold colored receiver but does not hold air.

I believe the sears 799 was the same as the Daisy 880.
here, I found this:
https://www.bakerairguns.com/product/daisy-880-3/
clearly this guy can fix your gun if you want. He resealed an old metal 1980s 880 that I sent him.

Thanks for the reply my gun looks a lot like that one but has a diamond shaped insert in the fore end. I'm trying to set something up with JG airguns but they cannot find the serial no. 190760 in their records yet. The .22 model must be an oddball.

I replied in your intro....
now the rest.
Early 880's had the white diamond on the foregrip (mine did in the mid '70's)
I never knew you could get an 880 in .22 even if it is a Ted Williams.

oh wow, somehow I had missed that your gun is .22 cal. Seems like that is probably not a super common gun.
regarding the fore end, I know that the earliest version of the 880 did not have the diamond in the fore end, but I know that the 880 that I got new in 1987 did have the diamond. so yours must have been made later than the one in the link I sent you. not sure what the cut off date is for the change in the diamond.

There were several .22 Cal versions of the 880. The 822, 922, 22x, 22sg. One version was called the Arkansas can opener. I remember seeing ads for it when I was young

The rifle looks just like the 822 but with a gold receiver. The first one he had I think was from the late 70's I wore it out collecting the bounty grandpa paid for starlings. He sent it back to sears or daisy they didn't fix just sent him a new one. I'm guessing that was around the mid 80's. JGairguns say they have a seal kit, I can't wait to be 12 years old again!

I've owned a "Sears Ted Williams" version of the 880 daisy since the mid 70's, it was also known as the EL Darado model. All of them I've ever seen or known were .177 cal. and "Smooth Bore" barreled. I didn't even know they ever offered a .22 cal. version of it. I certainly hope you find out some more information on your gun, because this is all news to me.
Just a quick aside note... Whenever I put in that model number Ted Williams model 799-190760 .22 cal in a search engine it comes up with photos of a Sears Ted Williams .22 rim fire powder burner, and some other assorted rifles, but nothing that resembles a Daisy 880 form factor.

The ted Williams is back shooting as good as I remember. Now I'll have to do some research. If you guys haven't heard of it I'm really gonna have to dig to find something . I'll try to post a picture but wife will have to take care of that with her phone.
