Tomorrow is Mothers day..... wait, there is more

Hey guys,
Remember that tomorrow is Mothers Day and that its important to do something nice for your Mother or wife or daughter (if she's a mom, too.)   I am lucky enough to have all three (two of the latter) and I know how lucky I am.
That special thing you do for her might just be some little thing, like hanging that picture that she's given up on asking you about anymore. It might not be important to you, but it means something to her.

I remember a number of years ago buying something at Lowes the day before Mother's day.  The cashier was doing her public service that day by reminding all the men who came thru her line that tomorrow was Mothers day.  I bet she made for a better Sunday in a few households.

Thanks for the reminder Lloyd. Some of us need that... But fortunately I did not forget this year and will be doing my husbandry duties and fatherly duties as well...

Thanks Gene,  Yes plenty of reminders around, but I bet for a number of folks, the GTA site is a place where the reminder might actually register, LOL. 

My mom is 80 and when she comes to visit she'll sit in a chair for hours in my shop and watch me work (always has), usually on an airgun project.  That's the one place where she doesn't say much, LOL, except an occasional, "should you clean some of the chips off that lathe," or "that handle squeaks, maybe it needs a drop of oil."   Good stuff.

I have several "other mothers" aunts, and some of my
mom's friends, who was always around while I was
growing up. Some of her best friends I thought actually
were my aunts for many years.
None of them ever missed an opportunity to
reprimand me when needed. They all gave lots of
love too, they all treated me as well as their own.
So I guess it was a good trade

Bill, ya know, you are probably right.  From that very first trip to the emergency room when I was in elementary school.  My brother and I would alternate, depending on who was on the receiving end.

I do remember one memorable experiment when I was in the 7th grade. I had checked out a book on science experiments from the city library (the elementary school stuff was too mundane.)  The book should have been entitled "Science experiments for the slightly demented."  I doubt it could be published today.

Anyway, for one experiment I wound a little step-up transformer using a bolt and 2 different gauges of magnet wire.  Hundreds of turns.  It had a sheetmetal key and a pair of D cells.  The two ends of the high voltage side were soldered to 6" lengths of copper tubing.  If you could get someone to hold a pipe in each hand as you pulsed the key, you could make their arms jump... I mean a big jump!  I brought it to school to show during science period and getting all the boys to take the high voltage hit.  Luckily, I had a male teacher who "understood."  Being pretty much a geek, my day was made when one of the tough guys wimped out and wouldn't do it and said, "All right, you proved me chicken."

The little triumphs in life!

Now that I think about it, that might have been a very, very early beginning of a Taser.

You can have a lot of airguns, friends, money, beer etc.... but don't forget you will always have one Mother you came from and if your Mother is still around, give her a hug and thank her. I always envy those that still have a mother to hug.

   My Mother passed in 2004 at the age of 93 and, ya know, I STILL "give" her a hug and a "thank you" for all she did.
