Excellent point on the buddy bottle Bill; I hadn't even considered one before, now I'm thinking that might be the perfect compliment to my compressor and much easier to cart around. If I need more air than that, it is certainly easy enough to just take the compressor and a bucket with a lid....

I followed this string a very long time before opting for the Carette compressor from airtanksforsale and their alpha filter. I like that it is completely self contained..no need for external cooling tank. I am more than happy with my set up. I believe the cost associated with going this route over the less expensive unit will pay off in the long run. There are several guns that I didnt buy while saving for this and I appreciate what I do have more. Overall well worth it

I'm tempted to buy one as well - just want one direct from China to UK at a low price, rather than through USA distributor at high price - I did find one, but not confident about the site I found it on

I did read in the blurb that it stays cool because it has slow motor speed - could that be why the cheapo compressors have over-heating problems - motor spinning too fast for fills over the recommended 0.5 liter max bottle without stop and cool off periods

Yep, point being... if I go away from home to say, my sister's for the weekend, I would just take the little compressor. If I went for primitive camping/hunting for the weekend... the buddy bottle would be the way for me. I don't do that often enough to stress "the little compressor that could".
Here's another scenario... I see some of you doing the sealed radiator/fan setup. Personally, I would use that setup for filling guns only depending on the radiator capacity. I might even bump up the radiator capacity and mount the whole system in a small yard wagon. Heck, you could mount it to a two-wheeled dolly (hand truck) for that matter. I think a major factor for me would be water separation. I live in a very humid area (Southern Alabama). My compressor now resides in a climate controlled environment and I still squeeze a lot of moisture out of the air.

I hear a lot of people (yourself included) that don't own and have never actually seen one of these compressors in person state that these can't and or won't and or shouldn't fill scuba tanks. To many, that means that these are automatically not an option for anything except topping off guns and they immediately feel they need to move on to much larger and or more expensive machines when most of the time they would simply be topping off cylinders also.

Yes, I agree that you can get carried away - I now want a Carette, and would buy one if it was not for price gouging in Europe + 20 percent sales tax (looking for one from China)

There is a lot of conflicting information - Omega looked good until I read the compressor is basically a motorized hand pump

I have definitely ruled out the single cylinder compressors - twin cylinder is what I want - I can get one for $421 delivered to UK - quality will be same as single cylinder compressors but better design

One thing to realize about the Davy twin cylinder compressor is that its only a two cylinder compressor just as the Yong Hengs are just setup as a V style cylinder arrangement. The black cylinder below the aluminum high pressure cylinder is just along for the ride since no air lines connected to it and there are likely no rings on the lower piston of the aluminum cylinder so it makes no compressed air.

The large finned cylinder that has the line going to the top of the aluminum cylinder is the first stage of compression and is directed into the top of the aluminum ( second stage ) cylinder to be compressed and directed to the adapter block with the bleed, HPA hose and HPA inlet from second stage.

In actual truth the cylinder arrangement for the second stage of the compressor is the same Yong Heng single cylinder setup with the lower stage non operational and just along for the ride. The fact it does not turn as fast as the YH compressor is likely due to the first stage cylinder on this one being a bit larger in CCs so it makes more pressure than the YH at a slower RPM.

Most all of these type compressor are modified and improved using lots of the same parts in different designs and configurations.

That would be my vote as well. I have a 5gal covered bucket for cooling. I keep 4 gallons of water in it and a 1 gallon jug frozen in the freezer. I simply drop the frozen jug in the bucket when running and return it to the freezer when done. I have the gold separator and the black one from MRodair both inline between compressor and tank/gun. The only thing I have yet to do is add red food dye to the water so I can verify water circulation.

Yes - but it's the separation that I'm willing to pay more for - less heat transfer to second stage - and I could easily make a longer transfer tube to aid cooling like they do with the Carette

If I could source a 300 bar head unit I'd make my own compressor with an external motor and gear the rpm to a slower speed - I now believe its the high running speed generating the excess heat

There is a standard model with 2 metal pipes on the heads rated at 40 liters a minute

The next cheapest is the hardback model with 3 metal pipes on the heads rated at 50 liters a minute

The other 2 other more expensive still are the same as hardback except auto-stop and set pressure additions

It also explains why the supplier to Amazon UK says maximum fill is 0.5 liter - they only supply the standard model

I can see no other explanation for some people being able to fill large tanks to 300 bar in one go by just putting a gallon of ice in the bucket

So I've done a U-turn and think a Hardback 3 pipe Yong Heng is a good purchase choice rather than an unknown quality twin cylinder compressor

I believe most all of us with the Yong hangs all have the same 3 exterior pipe model. I don't think there's any mystery of why some run hotter than others. Not everyone is comparing with same volume of water and or ice.

Yeah, too bad it wasn't that simple! I know some with even the set pressure model were getting pretty warm. Did anyone else see when on the slingshot channel he took the pump apart that he mentioned his water line was partly plugged and he had to do something to drill it out or something? Am I remembering wrong on this? Sure that is what he said. Thought it was weird at the time. I'll have to check it again.

I've taken the plunge and ordered a Yong Heng compressor from China

I ordered the adjustable auto stop unit, as I did not want to take the risk of them shipping the low capacity version by mistake - if it has adjustable auto stop then it must be the high capacity version

I'm going to make a permanent set-up using a free standing tiered rack/shelving unit with a re-circulating water container - water coolant additive but no ice

I studied a youtube video of a guy filling a 10 liter tank to 2000 psi from empty in a 1 hour continuous run - temperature display showed 49.5 - he was dumping the water down the drain and not re-circulating

He used an infrared temperature reader on the oil sump/crank housing and it read 49.0

He then read the second stage housing temperature at 32.6

So, are we all misdirected in cooling the water? - maybe we should be cooling the oil sump/crank housing - or could it be what is being put in the oil sump?

I see a bunch of these compressors on eBay now for $299 and change shipped. They are all shipped from Onterio, CA and claim delivery in a week. There are about 7-8 different vendors, but all the listings say the exact same thing, so I wonder if it’s really just one vendor with multiple eBay accounts. The difference is price is less than a dollar, and some of the vendors have higher (5 digit) feedback counts with ratings between 95% and 97%.  They all are offering Best Offer, and according to the feedback I saw, some are accepting offers.

These compressors have no name in them, but they appear to the the two stage hardback models with the cyclone oil/water separator.  I said I’d never purchase one of these off eBay after the last fiasco, but I’m now considering making an offer and see what happens. Has anyone one else here purchased one of the $299 compressors?

I started looking at Yong Heng and ended up looking at Carette - would have bought one too if it was not for EU distributor trying to price gouge me - even without the dreaded 20 percent sales tax it was considerably more expensive than USA distributor charges
