I've got a Weihrauch HW30 replacement barrel here that I like to disassemble from it's base block.
It has this mysterious star barrel nut on the breech end. On the other hand it looks like the barrel is also press fitted to the block.
The only information about this star nut I found here (last picture):

Does anyone around here know anything about this nut (left- or right-hand threaded) and where to possible get a spanner for it. Does anyone possible succesfully disassembled such a "new" barrel system from the base block.

Unfortunately I can't find any further information about this.

Me crazyness is of course already working on handcrafting a spanner for it, but it will still take some hours of work.

Hey Martin,
Never tried to remove a HW barrel from its block, but assumed it was pressed in.
I don't believe the "Star" you are referring to is a Nut.
Sounds like you don't want to buy a barrel from TW Chambers?

There is information regarding a star breech nut written by BB Pelleter, but I've never heard of anyone swapping barrels this way?

I want to disassamble this because I like to use this barrel as a replacement for a gun, where I can't get a proper replacement for.

I'm also not sure if it's a nut at all, but there seems to be two gaps at the green markings in the photo below. So it seems to be an additional part besides block and barrel.
So it's most likely some fancy shaped nut, additionally securing the fitted barrel (instead of a cross bolt ?). Possible not to make it easier, but to make it harder to get the barrel disassemled from the breech block, since there are no spanners available (a crossbold could be disassembled comparatively easily).

If I really get the spanner done and the nut lose, I will tell about it here.

BTW - Can't find the mentioned information about the nut from BB Pelleter.

its a nut I'm pretty sure? the older HW's don't have that! I know one of the old AG smith's I use to deal with before he retired told me he re barreled an R9 one time and he said he would never do it again! I think he had to cut the barrel off at the block and machine out the rest of it! and the guy was the re barrel master! Knew what he was doing and had re barreled tons of rifles and a bunch of barrels for me back in the day! so this will be interesting to see how this turns out? so please keep us informed! I have thought about re barreling a HW50 myself to a .20cal, I got my friend WhiteFang who can do it but were not sure how to remove the nut and yes it will take a special tool to do so! I think the wise thing to do is contact HW and ask them the questions about how to remove this nut! I haven't got there yet to do so but that's what I think needs to be done JMO

There was this initial mention of the star nut which I'm sure Tom Gaylord did Not make up, however, I don't see where anyone has ever made a barrel swap by removing this Nut?
I agree with Mark 611 - Call Weihrauch on this one.

Sounds like this (Star Nut) set-up was Not the one Mark was describing with his friend The Barrel Master.

Yes, it's a nut, but I was not able to unscrew it. It was just to tight. Possible I clamped it somehow in addition, as I clamped the breech block to my vice.
The breech block is very thin left and right besides the nut. So if someone will try this too - let the end of the breech block, where the nut is located,
stand out of your vice about 1".
The nuts head is just about 2mm deep, so there's no much room for the spanner to grip on it.
My spanner was pretty well fitted and tight, nonetheless it deformed the nut without getting it unscrewed after all.

Edit: Sorry I might be wrong first !
I'm not sure if it's right hand or left hand threaded - you can turn it loose the "usual" way, means counter clockwise !
SOrry the technical english therms are not common to me.

Since I wasn't able to loosen it, I decided to make a "cutaway" with my hacksaw.

When I had removed all parts of the nut I was barely able to hammer the press fitted barrel out of the breech block.
For that I clamped the breech block to my vice again, heatened it up with my blowtorch and then used a 12mm maschine screw as a punch.

I was not able to remove the barrel from the breech block without partially damaging it. Even if one gets the barrel nut off the barrel it's still very hard
to get the barrel punched out of the pressed fit with a hammer. The barrel end became mushroomed out a bit and I have to shorten it another 5mm.
May be this would work better with a pressing tool & pressing device.

I'm don't think any methodology of unscrewing the breech nut can be advisable to Weihrauch owners.
The end result is a destroyed barrel and breech assembly, but I know that you tried

Well, luckily, for my desired purpose, the barrel is not useless now.
I had to remove the breech block anyways.

On the rest you're seems to be right, unfortunately.
No quick barrel replacement nut.

So did they press the barrel in on splines? An a threaded nut to hold in place?
Im not doing that to mine & if someone does they are crusin for a brusin.
I can understand a cheaper throw away rifle but not me hw.

The barrel should once get build in to a 1377. (Even as I don't know exactly how I will do this, by now.)

The cuts was made with a simple hacksaw. The material is not hardened.
Further I smoothed the cutaway face with a file and finally with sandpaper, to better see the gaps and what's going on there.

Yes, the Weihrauch stuff is still pretty well manufactured and of high quality.
I have bought this barrel just as a spare part.
But it's possible not easily available everywhere, as, here in germany, it's hard to get a crosman replacement barrel.
But I guess it's even harder to get a good crosman barrel anyways.

Those splines are knurled for the aid in press fit. Many barrels have this.

The Bam B40 has a threaded breach area and a reg he nut. This barrels can be pressed out with a press. Some barrels are LT or a bonding material used for locking and for no air blowby. As the Diana 350. The breach seal seals also on the outer rim of the barrel block. Another example is the Hatsan breach is cut in the lead end of the barrel leaving a thin outer rim.

Heat helps and for those barrels as the Diana they have to be heated in the block to release the bond.

I did not notice by the cut away if the barrel was pinned or not. And yes the one mark mentioned had no nut.

Also the nut most likely is LT on. JMO

Looks like the HW barrel is very secured in place. Great share and bookmarked here.

As the nut did not move a bit first I also thought it might be secured by Loctite e.g. But when I cut all the way thru the parts came loose easily - no LT or such.
Also no further securing by a crossbolt anywhere. That would have been some overkill though.
