I've had a rather nice piece of walnut in my shop for some time now. I've always thought I'd make a full stock for one of my rifles with it. Well, with temperatures in the 70's here in Missouri, I had to spend some time enjoying "doors open shop time" and embarked on a project that was a bit of a pain in the Southern Hemisphere.
I decided my HW97 K was worthy of a new stock, and being a lefty shooter, custom fit was the way to get what I wanted. Here is my pictorial progress so far.

The stock wet with paint thinner to look at the grain.

After dye, stain, and lacquer.

Thanks all,
I've ordered a Morgan adjustable butt pad for it. I actually have one but it's too big and did not want the bright aluminum base, so I ordered a black one.
I forgot to mention that the accent wood on the grip and forestock are coco bolo. I'm hoping it turns very dark and perhaps almost black with time. I over sanded in some spots and ruined my design a bit. Not really pleased with the pistol grip part right now. I purposely wanted a very vertical grip but I wanted more angle on the accent. I may change it still???

Being a wood worker myself I know what kind of effort it took to make that! Love the Coco bolo inlays!

Mercy, that turned out well. First stock? You might make some good money on the side doing this kind of thing if you enjoy it, that is a beautiful stock. Nice work brother.

This was my first attempt at a full stock. I've made a buttstock for a Remington mod 11, and I've inletted a Boyds blaster stock for my D34, but this was the first full stock. It was interesting and challenging to say the least.
Lol, I'd go broke making stocks for a living. I think I have 20 hours in this one. Maybe the next one would go faster, IF there is ever a next one...

Sorry to bring this back up but I did not like the color, some of the lines, and the feel of my stock. I changed the angle on the pistol grip and slimmed down the wrist. I stripped the finish and stain and refinished to a more pleasant color and used less lacquer so you could still see some grain. I also made the gloss more satin as I did not like how shiny it was the first time.

still not sure I'm done...

First was pretty now it's gorgeous!! Excellent skill..
