RWS/Diana 45 Trigger Adjustment

Hey folks. I have an old, 1984, RWS45. It shoots pretty darn well. If the date doesn't prove it, it is the old style, with leather washer, squarish trigger guard, pin through the trigger, etc.
It also has two trigger screws, one forward of the trigger and a red-painted one aft of the trigger. Not only is it red, but the paint is kind of gooped in there almost like thread lock.
Anyway, the trigger is no bueno. It has a first stage that is fine, I guess, then it hits a brick wall. These triggers are thought to be OK, but mine clearly needs an adjustment. I would prefer not to just start twisting on that front screw, so any actual knowledge would be appreciated. CC or CCW to lighten, and approximately how much? And I assume the rear screw should be left alone.

When I posted this, I didn't have the rifle before me, but had been looking at photos of the trigger group online. There is a large screw behind the trigger blade in addition to the "thing" in front, which may not be a screw (it is a spring captured in a sheet metal "cage" that may or may not have a screw associated with it).
I know several people have these rifles and no one complains about the trigger and, as adjusted, the trigger on mine is complaint-worthy.
Maybe I'll just start cranking on that one screw and see what happens.

You may wish to request help on the Dianawerk Collective. They are mostly about Diana rifles and there is quite a knowledge base of older ones.
I know Diana went through different trigger designs before arriving at the T01. I did find information on the trigger of my 1969 Diana 35 via the Dianawerk Collective.
You could also try an internet search on Diana 45 Triggers.
Good luck.

I have looked around for information on adjustment. There's lots of disassembly and a number of comments on its lack of modularity, but nothing mentioning what happens when you turn the screw, which direction, how far, dangerous sear engagement, etc. etc.
Here is one of the better photos of the trigger group.

Thanks all. I am pretty sure NorthCountryGal has a 45 and I was hoping she would chime in. Come to think of it, I haven't seen her post in a while. Has anyone?
