We use to do the apple on a stick and fling it and those hurt!In 5th grade I got to spend a couple of weeks in southern IL at my friends grandpas farm.We went to the local hardware store and each bought a wrist rocket slingshot.Following a creek down into the woods looking for things to shoot we ran across some local boys about are age on the other side of the creek and they all had bb rifles. I said "hi,what are you guys doing?" The tallest one said "you all are yankees arent ya!"LOL and then they proceeded to open fire.We returned fire and the battle ensued as we chased each other through the woods and ended up back at their house which was right next to a gravel pit! I mean, what are the odds of that?! We had unlimited 3/4 inch limestone ammo and sat on that pile just firing away until a local squad car showed up with my buddies uncle.Grandpa was not too happy and confiscated the slingshots, but man was that a fun day! That would have been about 1973.I feel fortunate to have been a kid back then and kind of feel like it was near the end of some of the great eras to be a kid.
My cousins and I like to act tough.

Interesting that slingshots would come up just when I've been thinking about them. I just bought a small slingshot at the new Northern Tool store that just opened here, and that gave me the impetus to drag out some other slingshots and start looking at slingshot stuff online. The first slingshot I remember having, I got from one of my cousins in one of our many pocket knife/ airgun/ cb radio/ whatever trades. It was the original, non-folding Trumark Wrist Rockets. Interestingly, I find that the exact same slingshot is still made: http://amzn.to/2CvEj26Mine had no bands and the brace pad was missing when I got it, but I replaced the bands and made a new pad. I no longer have it. Thinking about buying a new one, because how many products you had as a kid are still available in the exact same form, and from the same company?
My first a daisy BB. Lost in time. 2nd and still have, 1972 crosman 1400. I have only one. But beware of the one gun marksman!!
WHAT !! They had air guns when I was a kid? I thought all there was to play with back then were sticks, rocks and mud !!
