Mildot confusion help!!!!

Hello fellow  shooters.I'm having a problem . I just brought a new scope  for my airgun.I have a Benjamin  trail np 2 in 22 caliber . I brought  a long range scope.it's  a fire field  10×40×50.my back yard is fairly small only 20 yards long 60 feet.my primary  use would  be to take this gun hunting  so I'll  be shooting  much farther  distances.anyways , ,,,at 20 yards my elevation  turret is maxed out and when shooting  at my target using my center mildot  as my focal point I'm hitting  my target like 3 inches below.I've  noticed the farther my target is the pellets  eventually  are shooting  higher and closer to my target.I haven't  had the chance to try shooting  at further distances yet.is that the only problem ? ???since it's a long range scope it's natural  that I have to shoot from farther  distances in order to use the center mildot as my primary  focal point of impact???mind you I'm using low base scope rings.I've  been  told the closer the scope is to the barrel  the better..should I use high rings instead???or finally   could it be that the scope I brought  is not a airgun rated scope???I didn't  research my scope.maybe it's  made for actual  rifles  not airguns ? ??someone  please help me solve this problem . ...thank you guys....happy shooting !

1. A 10-40x scope is too powerful to be of use at "backyard" distances IMHO... You are going to have a hard time shooting at anything close because your field of view is so small.  To put this in comparison I have a 3-9x40 on my marauder...

2.  Should be obvious, but do you have the scope installed correctly?  If you are looking at the butt end of your gun the windage adjustment knob should be on your right and your elevation on top.  If you have the windage on top and your elevation on the left side then you need to switch it.  It sounds silly, but I've seen many people do this.  Your scope might have parallax adjustment tho so if it does then this is a moot point since its impossible to install incorrectly.

3.  I don't know if gas piston guns are as hard on scopes as springers are, but I made sure I purchased a scope made for springers for my Hatsan 135 which has a gas piston.  Only time will tell if the scope will hold up or not, but I seriously doubt that your scope is damaged already...

4.  If you want to move your POI up then you either need to use shorter rings or you can shim the REAR of the scope.  Cut a piece off of a soda can and shim the bottom ring on the back side, lay the scope tube on top of the shim and then put the top of the ring on.  This will move your POI up.   Still think you should get a different scope tho...

That is a powerful scope for an air gun. And I don't have experience with gas rams, but spring piston airguns destroy scopes... So if the scope you have isn't specifically airgun rated and/or expensive I would save it for another gun...
The rising point of impact is the curved parabola flight of the pellet in comparison to the scope. So yes, as you go further the pellet will 'hit higher'-to a certain point...


In your case, the scopes line of sight is above the pellet at the distance you are shooting at. This is most likely because of the  magnification of the scope( the lack of field of view)
It could also be barrel droop.
I would personally save the scope for another gun and buy another and mount it with a droop compensating mount.
With that gun, I wouldn't expect to shoot much further than 50 yards... A fixed 4x or 6x would fit the job and have less moving parts to get damaged compared to a variable, but its up to you.

YES ... a nitro piston action BEATS ON SCOPES same as a spring piston.
Action & scope recoils one way as pistons let go from cocked position ... then recoils the other direction as piston stops.

If scopes not Air Gun rated ( This rating ONLY for these type actions BTW ) it will likely suffer a quick death used on a nitro/spring piston air gun.

Good to know.  Always thought it did, but it doesn't have the torsion that the spring has when it 'unwinds' as it lengthens so I wasn't sure.
