BSA R10 Question

I finally got my tank this week and was able to shoot my R10 for the first time today.  However, there were some hurdles to overcome.  One remaining hurdle has to do with a pressure loss after the first shot.  I will outline my set-up, then give more description of the problem.

Rifle info;

BSA R10 MK2 .22 - brand new
Huma Regulator installed - set to 135 BAR
Hammer spring is stock, no adjustments have been made at this point.
Tank is a Joe Brancato 97 cu ft Great White 4500 psi

Problem;

When I fill the rifle, I get one shot, and then the BSA gauge drops all the way to around 100 BAR, next shot velocity is way low

Back off on the bottle 1 turn, shoot several shots to bleed off pressure, turn bottle back on and pressure is restored and remains for the entire shot string with no more problems.

This happens on every single fill.  I have gradually slow filled to pressures ranging from 210 BAR to 220 BAR with the exact same results.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

By the way, here is my most recent shot string filled to only 210 BAR;

Sounds like something is sticking or impeding the Buddy Bottle needle valve as it mates with the gun?
Just wait, I'm sure Motorhead or LDP have the answer .

Thanks Kirk Yeah I am thinking the same thing, the pressure stops feeding through from the buddy bottle, but only on the first shot after a fill   Back it off, bleed off the pressure and reinstall the bottle and all is well for the rest of the string. At first I thought it might be some kind of a valve lock from too much pressure, but it does the same thing at 220 BAR and 210 BAR Max fill pressure for this rifle is 232 BAR.  Once it is up and going after the first shot drop off, the regulator seems to be functioning fine.

I assuming this is a new issue that started after you opened up the gun and removed the Buddy Bottle - Right?
If yes, you likely got some crud in the gun connection w/the Buddy Bottle or the bottle nozzle itself. 
If so, only a minor PITA ................., but I understand that after you've taken the gun apart 10 to 15 times ya just want it to shoot normally .

That would make sense.  Yes, brand new gun.  Prior t this I removed the bottle one time when I bled off pressure to install the Huma Reg. The regulator is doing it's job, but the pressure from bottle drops off after first shot.  I'll do some digging and see what I come up with. Strange how it resets and work fine after backing bottle off and bleeding out pressure one time?  But perhaps the debris makes its way to where it shouldn't during filling, then moves after the pressure is bled off?

Nitrocrushr, Has the accuracy on your R10 improved with the HUMA regulator ?

Its been awhile since looking at a drawing of the reg but the bottle feeds the reg and a seperate path to the gauge. Thats why the gauge reads bottle pressure instead of the reg set point. I dont remember if theres a check valve at that point but if there is maybe its sticking. The bottle is opened like the bottle of a paintball marker and its just a pin to hold open the valve on the bottle so I dont think the problem is at the bottle. My guess is somewhere after that pin. I coukd be very wrong There is a schematic online that shows the air path from the bottle in great detail and that may help find where the issue is.

Only thing coming to mind ( Not aware when PM'ing with steve a Huma was being used ) .... When the OEM reg gets unscrewed there are a couple parts that remain in the bottom of that threaded hole ( O-ring and a small brass piece IIRC ) that need to be picked out before installing the HuMa into the same hole OEM reg unscrewed from.

Thanks Scott, I think I got everything out when I installed it but I will double check.  I sent an email to XTX and they think that the pin in the buddy bottle fitting might need a small adjustment.  He thinks that it is not protruding far enough, making it a hit or miss for the valve fully opening.  He sent me a procedure to check and adjust this so I will look at this as well

Hi Dennis, I installed the Huma right away rather than mess with the stock regulator.  It might have been a good one, who knows but I didn't want to take the chance.  As far as accuracy goes, I wasn't pushing for the accuracy end of things just yet.....just trying to get a feel for the rifle and iron out the problems that I have encountered.  This weekend I can hopefully get past this and begin to test for accuracy

What happen IF you screw on bottle, then just back it out 1/4 turn or so from the start ?

It sounds like its to repeatable to be the pin if it does it every time and resetting the bottle fixes it. Once the valve is opened enough by the pin to fill the reg it would be almost impossible to close itself. Based on your explanation thats what would be happening. Again I could be wrong. It will be interesting to see what ends up being the problem.

Well I just wanted to updated everyone, problem has been resolved   There was no debris in the bottle fitting, so I followed the guidelines XTX Air provided me with.  According to them, as you slowly screw the bottle onto the fitting, you should begin to feel resistance of the pin coming into contact with the bottle when the o-ring is just inside the edge of the brass fitting.  Mine was well into the fitting with bottle almost bottomed out before I felt the resistance of the pin pressing against the bottle.

I loosened the lock down nut and adjusted the pin 1.25 full turns to extend it a little further.  Problem solved.  I figured I would share this in case anyone else ever encounters this same problem

When following this procedure, you must be exceptionally careful, turning the bottle VERY slowly until you just feel the resistance.  If you turn the bottle too quickly you will risk depressing the bottle plunger allowing the air pressure to expel from the bottle.
