Crosman triggers

I have three Crosman rifles , each with a "hard' trigger. What will happen if I remove the adjustment screw that is behind the trigger ?

If you like a very loooong 1st stage, that's the mod. If you want a safe mod to lighten your hard trigger get Tuna's gold trigger or you can replace the spring that pushes the trigger back to a lighter one and replace the screw you mention to a longer one just be careful you don't make the 1st stage tooo short and barely catching.

A longer screw will eliminate as much first stage travel as you want-then put a roller bearing in the trigger. You will end up with a very nice trigger. I don't remember the specific sizes I used- do  a search  for trigger mods - whole bunch of posts with good details.

That back screw from the factory should be something an  M3 x 5. Hit your local hardware store and find the same thing in a M3 x 8 and they have them in allen head which makes adjusting even easier as sliding an allen wrench in there is way easier than a phillips head and you'll need to, I did on my Optimus before I bought the GRT III trigger. As a suggestion, screw it all the way in then back it out a full turn and a 1/4, cock it, load it, close it up and with it pointing in a safe direction, do the bump test aka smack the buttpad on the ground a few times to make sure the rifle won't accidently go off if bumped or possibly dropped and if you do any adjustments, do the bump test after every one.
That roller bearing can be gotten at any local RC car shop if you have one and if memory serves (hopefully anyway..lol) it's a 2.5 x 5 x 8, they're usually less than a buck, but please double check me and look around for a thread on it and make sure of that size.
