Yes,they sealed the valves with a hard sealant,no orings like crosman valves.This way servicing or modding the 850's valves was a nightmare.

A shrouded repeating QB, but Umarex took it further with 2 channels for the bolt...  For $299.  Where do I sign up?  Even in stock config this could be fun.

I'm beginning to think some manufacturers are really starting to pay attention to the market instead of just designing stuff that garners only 7 minutes of attention from the PB crowd.

100% agree.... Umarex has "thrown down the Gauntlet" to the other PCP manufacturers with what most on this forum have been wanting for many years.... a low-cost, regulated, moderated repeater with adequate power and (hopefully) a great shot count.... It would appear they have been paying attention to what we have been doing.... I'm guessing the plenum will be small (where would they put a big one?), so that likely precludes Big Bore mods, or even a powerful .25 cal, which is maybe why they don't make one, this is limited to the "traditional" .177 and .22 cals, which I'm sure are most of the sales.... This would have been considered a "state-of-the-art" PCP about 5 years ago, and realistically the only things that have changed since are larger plenums to support large calibers and more FPE.... plus the quest for greater efficiency....

I personally have very mixed feelings about the Gauntlet.... I think it should be a great "buy it and shoot it" PCP.... but when you take a narrowly focused design and wrap it in a tight plastic package, you have (likely intentionally) made the modder's job nigh impossible.... Yeah, you can screw on a longer, 17 or 22 CI bottle, but why bother if it doesn't have the ability to be modded for big power or calibers that need that extra air?.... I guess it won't matter, anyway, I'll never see one in Canada because of the shroud.... Be careful what you wish for....

I know that i may be on the NEWBIE side, but a rifle that has all the attributes of a highly mod gun for less dollard is a good reason to be attracted to the airgun world..  Only the HARD CORE airgunner has PLANTED in me the desire to carving the skills for modding a gun that cost me bone stock some of my income... I know that a researcher like you Bob and MANY others will find the way to modding this type of gun..   Right from the start i can see the setup of having a 88 gram piped to the valve to increased the plenum..

At this price, i`m all in to be in the first batch of buyer..  LOL Nothing really to loose at this price , i can REUSE the tank and barel on other guns..

If this turns out to be accurate, I have to wonder how long it will be before they release a bulk CO2 version and literally put the final nail in the coffin of the Hammerli 850.

This is literally exactly what I'm turning my 850 into for almost exactly the same money EXCEPT I am going through every part inside and out, with the Gauntlet you would literally just have to wipe the oil off and shoot (mostly, some of us can't leave well enough alone).

This might end up being my goto recommendation for someone wanting to play with a PCP at a decent price.

I hope the Gauntlet is a decent pick up and shoot rifle. Would be a wonderful starter PCP rifle, plinker, and pest gun for a huge crowd (if) it is everything they say. My cynical self tells me that it's not all gravy, trigger feel/quality, barrel quality and such. I am sure the Germans do a decent job on fit and finish, but I do hope it's not a plastic fantastic gun with an awful untunable and/or worse, unchangeable trigger.

How are they getting 900 fps with 14.3gr pellets with only an 1100 psi reg?  It may be that extra long 28.5" barrel.

That's on pyramid air's website. Doesn't match the numbers posted here, I'll bet the numbers here are closer. 900 fps on .22 has got to be closer to the right numbers and probably slightly inflated by marketing.

I'm guessing they are not using an 1100 PSI setting on the regulator.  Umarex certainly has the money and engineering know-how to make a stronger design with a higher set-point and still maintain DIN EN13445-spec safety margins.

EDIT: and I stand very corrected- now listed on PA for PreOrder ~ $295.  the regulator is set for 1100 PSI, so this is a fancy wrapper for a QB, with 2 slots for the bolt, an adjustable 2 stage trigger, "medium" loudness as shrouded and a 10-shot mag.

In other words, Umarex built what so many people have wanted with a 3-year warranty.   Pellet speeds listed using 7.9 and 14.3, so who knows.  Estimated in-stock date 05-19-2017.

I still want one in .22 and will end up buying one unless it is serious junk.

You can tune the regulator up to a point, but unless you increase the plenum you'll start fighting to open the valve long enough, or at all.

I just like that it's shrouded, has an adjustable trigger, a 10-shot magazine, two slots for the bolt, and has the bottle all for under $300.  I cannot build a QB-79 with all of this for under $300 if I have to purchase everything.

Nervoustrigger has showed a way to increase the plenum with the QB 79 and if it is the same mecanisim, ì`m not worry one bit..

I dont know too much about the QB mods, so I'll leave that where it is. If it's easy and safe to do so, great.

This isn't a lower pressur- it is still 3000 PSI, regulated to discharge downstream of the regulator at 1100; and the bottle is 13 cubic inches.

It took me a couple hundred strokes to bring to 3000 PSI on the 13 CI bottles I've owned if starting from empty.

You are "dang" right..  And the experienced modders can chim in to validated the claim..
