If you scroll down , there is a pic of how to get pressurized air into your G6 pump . This should make the hand pumping a bit faster for all the testing you're doing . I think I read 50 psi regulated pressure to the pump . And only a couple dollars worth of fittings to adapt compressor to pump.

I have seen this combo of compressor and hand pump before but was quiet hoping to hear results of ENDURANCE TESTING...
This is a good transition betwen the hand pump and HPA compressor..

Installed the Hill hammer last night. Per Tim's instructions I removed the stock striker from the stock hammer and installed it in the lightweight hammer as I'm looking for a 30+ fpe tune. Tim's hammer weighs 20g. Substituting the stock striker bring the total weight up to 25g.

Didn't take long to determine that the stiff poppet valve spring in the stock valve does not like the light hammer and spring combo. Have to put way to much spring preload in it to get the fps up. Gun is definitely quieter though. Changing out to the Hill gauge block and Hill valve this afternoon. More shot strings to come. I do love a good experiment.

thanks for the Caldwell Chrony Amazon link, Terry.   Great price  ($87 Amazon Prime).   I just pulled the trigger.   My finicky  Shooting Chrony F1 will probably end up becoming part of a Raspberry Pi experiment.

Thanks Denis!! I had seen this on the Benji pumps but was clueless how to do it on my G6. I see now. Going to get some parts and give it a try. I have a big compressor for my shop but I think I'll try my HF pancake compressor. Easier to regulate and it's oilless. I've pumped about 3000 pumps this week testing. Great cardio but sheesh...that's a lot of pumping.

Another interesting day in the shop for me as a total air gun newby. Today I installed Tim Hill's tricked out valve and gauge block. More on the install in a minute. Here's a couple pics of those parts vs the stock parts.

Not a whole lot of exterior differences but the poppet spring is only 6.5 lbs. Way softer than the original. You can barely move the original with you finger but it's super easy to unseat the valve in the Hill. A much better match for the lighter spring and hammer.



This pic of the gauge blocks pretty much speaks for itself as to the difference.



Now for the installation. Tim suggests in the instructions to file or Dremel a chamfer on the inside of the gauge block hole in the air reservoir. Let me say that is an absolute necessity. After several unsuccessful tries and 2 rounds with the Dremel and smoothing out the chamfer with 280 grit wet and dry paper, I finally got the O rings past the stupid gauge block hole without nicking them. Live and learn. Follow the instructions. The dude that wrote them probably know what he is doing. 

I'd say that the change was pretty significant. First shot string with the hammer and striker both backed all the way out I got 43 shots over 30 fpe. ES is bad but when I trim the ends off that string to the best 38 shots the ES is 4.90. Obviously still not great but it is coming from an unregulated rifle with the stock TP.

I'll drill the barrel and install Tim's .160 TP when the reg gets here but for now I'm pretty pleased with the progress. I know the reg will even out the string and bring the ES down. Anyway, here's the complete string.

Now for the rest of my day. I did the mods to the G6 pump to use my little pancake compressor as a booster. Took a little doing. Much more of a project than it is for the Benji pump but I think the results were worth it.

The G6 pump pulls air through the handle so the first order of business was to remove the hand grips and and see what's going on inside there.

First thing I see is a little black block of mesh...



When I pull out the block of mesh much to my surprise, I see that the handles are full of desiccant beads. Pretty cool idea but they weren't doing a very good job as I was feeling some moisture when I released the bleeder after pumping.





After removing the beads and mesh filters, I measured the id of the handle tube and determined that it I could drill it to 3/4" and tap it to 1/2"npt. I picked up the necessary fittings from Lowe's and a little desiccant inline filter from Harbor Freight.

Here are the fittings. 1 - 1/2"npt x 1/2"npt male, 1 - 1/2"npt x 1/4" npt reducer and 1 - 1/2"npt pipe plug.



And the filter and a 90 degree air swivel I also picked up from HF. A 1/4"npt x 1/4"npt male fitting will also be required.



Here's the handle tube drilled to 3/4" id. Both ends of the handle have to be drilled and tapped.



One end of the handle will receive the 1/2"npt plug. In the other half of the handle I reinstalled the mesh plugs and the desiccant beads once both ends were tapped before installing the 1/2" x 1/2" male fitting.

 



Here's the completed plugged end. 



And after the hand grip was trimmed to clear and installed.



And here's the business end with the 1/2" x 1/2" male installed into the tapped handle end and the 1/2" x 1/4" reducer installed.



I added the 90 degree swivel fitting to mount the desiccant filter so it could move freely during the pump stroke. The filter will stay with the pump so I can have the added air drying whether I'm using the booster compressor or not. I added a regular type N foster fitting to connect the compressor.



I have a 5hp 80 gallon Snap On compressor for my shop needs but I opted to use the little Harbor Freight pancake compressor that we use at the race track. It's oil less and obviously portable. I have the output regulated down to 15-20 psi. for this application.



After all of that, the proof is in the pudding so I hooked it up and began pumping. The stock pump took about 100 pumps or so to go from 2000psi to 3000psi. With the booster pump that number is cut in half with only 52 pumps to gain the same 1000psi.

Here is the completed setup in use. I'm quite happy with the results. The pumps do require a bit more effort with the booster but the number of pumps being cut in half way more than balances that out.



Once I started using the boosted pump I discovered that the bolts attaching the handle to the shaft leaked like crazy since the handle is now pressurized. I filed the mating surface flat and cut a couple of slices off a nylon spacer that I had to make 2 nylon washers to form a seal for the bolts to the handle.

Question:Could you please expand/explain the "chamfering" of the air tube a bit for this dummy? Does this mean taken a bit of material off of the inboard side of the gauge hole? I'd have to use a file, no dremel. Kinda scares me. I plan on getting Tim's kit eventually, gonna do the TSS first.

Thanks Ed!! Yes, basically beveling back the inside of the gauge hole in the air res. The edge is sharp and it is nearly impossible...for me anyway...to get the O ring past that edge without nicking it or outright tearing it in half. I have a pile of O rings in various stages of destroyed that testify to that. Would be easily done with a file. Just need a small, fine round file. You need to transform the 90 degree edge of the hole to more of a 45 degree bevel. I followed up the Dremel with some wet and dry sand paper that I just rolled up and used to smooth out the surface of the chamfer.

Thanks Alain! Only pumped up a couple of times but I think the booster on the pump is going to be very good. Time will tell but so far I like it.

I don't have the same pump but that is an interesting idea. Does the mod make it so you can only use it with  the air compressor or will it still work fun as a stand alone pump?
