RWS 25 Freebie.

My brother recently gave me an older Hy-Score Model 801 .22 ag that was made in Germany and, as I found out, is really an RWS 25. It's in very good shape and shoots well although a bit on the weak side. It looked pretty dry inside so I took it apart to do a lube tune with some JM stuff and found the leather seal in good shape so, after the lube, hone and deburing, I put it back together and noticed it does shoot and cock noticeably smoother. I like the gun and the price was right so I'm wondering if there are any parts available like a spring to put some original oomph back into this. The spring has 30 coils that measure .107 diameter and is 8.5 inches long relaxed if this helps any. Thanks.

Look around on JM's site and you might find a spring that matches, if not EM him he may have something that works but you may have to have a spring guide made for it.

Add a couple small drops of silicone oil (hobby shops sell it for R/C car shocks - you'll want the pure stuff). Let sit butt down for a day or two to rejuvenate the seal. These did not have a lot of power, especially in .22 .

I'd find away to adapt a synthetic piston seal to that rifle and lose the leather one! JMO

It can be done. I did a Diana 45. The leather seal just had a washer over the seal and a stub shaft peened over. The stub holds the piston together so you can't drill and tap. I found a flush mount allen screw with the correct taper then spun it up in the lathe. I machined it so the taper is just below the seal. Then center drilled it and welded it to the stub on piston. Installed a JM Apex seal , lubes and she is shooting better then new.

It sounds like this was never meant to be much of a powerhouse and it looks like the best way to go is with a synthetic seal and new spring. I'll let you know what I end up with. Thanks everyone.

Oil the seal, get a couple of aluminum soda cans, a tin of pellets and call me in the morning about replacing the seal/spring. Those are nice, sedate plinkers. Sort of the other end of the spectrum from the 350, etc. Try it and see if it isn't the adult equivalent of a Daisy 25. Does yours have an adjustable trigger? If so, she's worth more than a regular 25 as it might be a 25D.

This doesn't have an adjustable trigger...just a plain single pin and return spring. The barrel is rifled and, yes, I would consider it a sedate shooting ag that is quite accurate at 10m into a duct seal trap. The pellets don't stick in far at all and some fall out after a bit of shooting.

I have two of them a dasiy 250 in 22cal an a daina 25 in 177 cal The 22cal will 460 fps with a 14.3 pellets an the 177 cal will do 580-600 depending on pellet. I like the dasiy better little gun hits hard . very accurate out 25 yd,s the diana 25 isn,t as accurate but still a good shooter. Very nice find. I would fix it up an enjoy it.
