Is it a major no-no to reversing a lathe like mine? I've done it before and everything stayed together. I was watching a youtube video and the hazard of the chuck backing off was brought up. I'm waiting on a F-N-R switch to come in so I can get my new motor up and running. The original Craftsman motor was a reversing, variable speed unit. Seems like I was using the reverse while boring and I needed to see the tool on the far side of the ID that I was cutting into.

Yes, for sure you will need to make sure you secure the chuck to prevent it from backing off when operating in reverse....

Must be locked down pretty well... thanks for the great tip and I'll refrain from going into reverse.
