BSA R10 .22 Ambi, high gloss

hi guys,
Last year (2010) me and my son fell in love with the BSA R10 on a range shoot where the .22 fac version shot a 10 shot dime hole at 50m very easely by the a contestwinner and my then 13 year old son did practicly the same. “Awesome” or like we say “Wow”
“That is the new pcp to have” we said to one and other.
The “Wow” factor is still there a year later.
But with a more expirienced background.
You can read about that on the BSA-forum;
Further you can adjust everthing to your liking; trigger buttpad
But you can adjust the preload also on the hammerspring and choose the weight of the hammer if you remove the the round dot behind the action.
http://www.gunmart.net/gun_review/bsa_r-10/
http://bsaog.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=37.0
And don’t forget to look on youtube for foottage on the R10 if this gun interests you.
you might get hungry.
Actually i see it as rough product with only one important thing; accuracy
Using the R10 means maintenance in various degrees. It can leak?
Take it apart, clean it, and put it as tight as should, not too tight but tight enough, together again.
The magazine can get sharp edges in my case; remove them and grease it with 100% silicon
I made the outside holes in the magazine a little wider so the probeseal won’t touch the outside of the magazine.
Also an oversized probe 0-ring is better then the std one; 1,6 – 3,1 mm
The best pellet to use is the JSB 5,52 for dead accuracy but the Gamo TS22 is an excellent plinker and accurate as well to 40m when cleaned and with a very different pricetag.
With this very beautifull well balanced regulated PCP and new flagship of BSA you have to take things in perspective.
Most of the time it is compaired with the AA 410 extra Fac, which means up to 300 m/s. 47 joule
The BSA R10 does around 240 m/s 30 joule is also made for hunting but within 50m and when you go beyond 50m and you increase the preload getting up to 280 m/s you have less good shots due to the extra consumption of air with your 200cc bottle. An alternative is a theoben 280cc bottle. Watch out, you take the small one.
The R10 and the AA410/510 are made for hunting which is more like a within 50m job.
Hunting means using one fill on a hunt max. Shooting it from the shoulder.
So with 40 very accurate shots you should have enough for your bunnies.
Exporting to a country as the Netherlands is a different ballgame.
Hunting is not allowed with airguns and FAC needs no licence.
So instead of hunting the R10 must compete in the Netherlands on 100m benchrestcompetition which seems to become a sort of dutch benchmark for playing in the premierleague of airguns
Other point is that the aftersales outside the UK seems something different then in the UK.
So there is a lot of noise around the R10.
Then there ia always the question what should and what should not..........by the devoted lovers of the brand.
Since the R10 stock is lefthanded or righthanded there was no other option for me then to make it ambi by adding an extra piece of black walnut ...
My R10 is origanally righthanded but for me as a lefty the sharp edge distracts me when shooting while my son has all the fun being righthanded.
That is why i have that lumb of wood on the rightside. Luckely this is my R10 and nobodyelses so it is permitted. Ha ha
A LDC up front and a extra piece of wood in the back keeps it all in balance.
The R10 deserves high gloss which makes it more musculair
Air Arms has a new classic 410 in high gloss so we are the early adopters......so to speak.
It very personal, but with the gloss it looks more finished and handmade to me, all a matter of taste.
Overall judgement
So when i take my R10 from the gunvolt, sit on my usual spot and place 10 shots 4 times with one fill on various crosses on a sheet of paper and then look at the R10 in my hands i have that very satisfying “wow”feeling.
Knowing the gun inside out is part of the package with the R10 to keep it top notch, but isn’t that with every pcp airgun.
And i take it to a shoot with great confidence for a hole day of enjoyment eating a big tin of pellets an drinking a full scuba of air.
So..........a
Very nice accurate shooter indeed, beautifull too......
Regards
Woodland

LOL Nice Gun...I thought you were a salesman talking about the gun for a moment. My guns aren't as pretty as her... but they have a great personality

Great report on a beautiful PCP air rifle. Guess that's the upgrade of my BSA Scoprion T-10.

Actually the R10 is replacing the BSA SuperTen. The scorpion is still around but I believe the wood stock is no longer availible for it.
