Hi all just got 2240,I was wondering what mods to get to 500fps.Right now shooting 420fps. Do ya need special tools,and where the best place to start,,thanks

RVA (power adjuster) or simply a heavier hammer spring.

LOOK OUT! The 2240 is addictive. After the RVA and heavy hammer spring, I put a steel breech, Boss valve, larger transfer port, longer barrel, prod trigger, TKO, crosman butstock and a scope on mine. Now it shoots JSB 14gr ammo at 620fps.

The 2240 is a very fun gun to tinker with. mods, mods, mods.
And the Madness goes on.

Buy a longer barrel. 10" should get you real close by itself. No need for a power adjuster just yet. The 2240 is already over sprung and has a hammer that is too heavy for the stock barrel. Google 2240 free power mods that should keep you busy for a while . I would get a steel Breech and barrel to start.

All the other suggestions will help get you up there at a cost. I'm not sure where u are shooting at, but being in Washington state in the month of November isn't helping your fps number.

The only 22xx that I have that's still on co2 is my 2300T target pistol however I'm a fan of the Hipac's and I've got a spare in case I want to use HPA on it. Right now I think my best airgun for squirrel is my modified 2240 with a 14.5" barrel on it. I have also noticed that a lot of people who modify their 2240's to HPA will use the freezer tube for a transfer port however I've chosen to stick with the stock transfer port cause it seems to do a great job plus it keeps the shot count up

Love your squirrel gun Wayne. These 2240s are some of the most fun a person can have with an Airgun. They can be custom built to how ever your going to use it. I have two, the co2 one I described earlier and another that is a HPA, Bottled, regulated, disco barrel, and BNM breech and shroud. shooting JSB 18gr at 820fps. This winter its becoming a 25cal. So much FUN!

I love talking abought 2240 mods.

All very good suggestions here.

From building many, and spending WAY too much money on them, you eventually learn what you like.

I suggest thinking what you want to use it for before you start your mods.

Hunting?
Power is going to cost you shot count.

Plinking, and small animal pesting?
Then you need to find a balance between power and shot count(you don't want to have to change cartridges every 10-15 shots)

Target shooting?
It doesn't take much velocity to poke a hole in the target paper.
So you get youour most shots per cartridge.

The first ones in my opinion is a steel breech, it makes everything rigid, and provides a place for optics if you desire.

The second is an extended bolt probe, the photo below shows where a stock 2240 bolt seats the pellet.
You want to get the cleanest airflow behind the pellet, not into the side of it.

A longer barrel, (with co2 the longer the barrel the more velocity you will get, TO A POINT)
And if you live in a populated area, a TKO to quiet it down.

After that you are only limited by your pocketbook and your imagination.

The 2240 below has pretty much everything the guys above were mentioning.
10 inch .177 walther barrel
Steel breech
An extended bolt probe
TKO
3 moa red/green dot sight
A modified transfer port(ice maker tubing)
A Marauder pistol grip/trigger assembly for an adjustable trigger
A marauder pistol hammer, that has been lightened
A RVA (rear velocity adjuster) from a Crosman challenger.

It's set up for plinking/pesting.
With 7.9 grain Benjamin domes, it gets 556fps average, and 70-80 shots per cartridge at 65 degrees.
With the adjuster turned down, it gets about 385 fps and over 100 shots per fill.

Thanks, I had thought I had "outgrown" the 22xx platform a few years ago, and sold them all when I moved to more powerful guns.

But something about them kept calling me back, I bought modded and sold them, over and over, each modded different than the one before.
Trying different directions.

Eventually, settling on the one you see above.
For what I do with them, it is the perfect one for me (at this point in time, subject to change)

The most versatile of the ones I built was this one below,
It has all the same features of the current one, but a different LDC.
And a ar-15 styled stock.
And 4-16 scope
It was also tuned for power, 15 shots per cartridge.
Shotgun shell accurate at 50 yards.

Nice carbine Ian. Like you I tuned mine for power. I put a 21" barrel on mine and I'm getting 20 shots per cartridge. Sorry I don't have any pics, I loaned it to my neighbor back in the spring for garden defense. He really likes it. I think I will let him keep it and build another.

That's a good reason to build another, getting someone else hooked..

The reason we keep posting photos is to give the origional poster some eye candy, and ideas as to what can be done.

This one we called "brassy" she lived up to the name.
Loud, obnoxious, a show off, and to the point.

This one the powder burner guys at the range called it "hypertension" (the silent killer)
That's a TKO without the wrap, a 24 inch barrel, a modded valve for power.
The advantage of the longer barrel was increased velocity, but a more efficient use of the gas.
It made just as much noise shooting a pellet as it did without gas, just the sound of the hammer falling...

Yes I know it's a 2400, but it is a 22xx based gun.

Ron,

What are the hoses/fittings you were running from the bottle stock to the front of the tube? I'm assuming disco valve/tube and it's pressurized? Or are you plumbed directly to the valve?

Edit: Is it just macroline fittings? Been trying to figure out how to bottle a 2400, and I love your setup.... any tips if I go that route?

I think I would love to build one of these in pistol form for pesting but being as we actually get winter here in WA CO2 is not ideal at all.

Sweat guns! And now I see on another tread, We can get a 2400 with a LW barrel from CCS. I think I need to order one. I got the fever to start another build. I'm burning up!

Update, I just ordered a 2400kt with a 14" 22cal. LW barrel. And its this tread that made me do it.

Crosman used to make a gun called a king rat catcher. (AS2250xt)

It was the 2400 with a 88 gram powersource, instead of the 12 gram.

The 88 gram cartridge was in the rear of the gun, but had an external tube that directed the co2 to the front part of the valve through the side of the main Tube.

The advantage was more consistent, and more shots obviously with more co2 on board.

The guns above are obviously using either a modified 22xx valve to seal the rear of the tube around the valve, or a disco valve as they are feeding from the front of the tube, thereby pressurizing the entire tube rather than directly into the valve.

Hope this explains some of what you see in those guns.
