D 34 going topless

Last week I took the scope off my Diana 34 to try some shooting with open sights. Think I'm going to leave it off. The scope is great for precision shooting from the bench, but out in the real world, shooting from various positions, at 20 to 30 yards I can hit targets about as well with the open sights and get on target quicker. Plus it makes the gun a pound or so lighter and allows for more comfortable carry positions.
I am not, however, very fond of the little pointy metal front sight blade. I would like to replace it with a nice, small bead sight. Before I start re-inventing the wheel, I thought I should ask you guys what is the best\simplest\easiest\cheapest way to do this. I was thinking about maybe going with one of the slip-on plastic sights from a 34 Panther. Anyone have any better ideas or suggestions ?
Thanks,
Gary

The option I prefer is a red dot. Much lighter than a scope. more accurate than most open sights. I like a 4min dot or smaller but the BSA/Tasco/Leapers and whatever brand name they use are a real ($40 or less ) bargain. I have three in use now plus my favorite, a Millet with 3 min dot on my B26-2.

Another option is a Williams type rear or aperture sight.
Once you are accustomed to centering the sight, it is far more precise than regular dovetail opens, for me at least.
There is a tradeoff for this accuracy improvement, though, in the form of a reduced FOV around the target. Best to locate target with both eyes, then close one and shoot if thats your style.
God bless,
Farmer
