I talked to Will athttp://saddlemountaingunsmith.com/ about a barrel swap on my 909 . He had never done one and became interested in my project . He had a 909 there to take measurements from . So I did not have to send him a thing . I went with the 28 inch TOW barrel in 32 caliber 1 in 16 twist .312 grove . Same barrel that is on my JH 32 . Will did a excellet job and was very profesionial about the whole sale .
This was the first time out with the rifle and nothing but the barrel was changed . I ran out of time and will have to continue another day . I will show you the 45 caliber readings as well . Some very interesting things to compare IMO .
The barrel was not blued and since I am not sure what I might do in the future . I sanded it with 400, 600, 1500, 2000 grit paper . Then used semi chrome metal polish on it for now .Marvin

Hey Thats real cool Marvin, you went ahead and did what the rest of us were talking about. Glad to hear that Will P did the work too.
Now correct me if i'm wrong but the valve on this gun was not touched? Good figures out of a stock .45 and smoking fast numbers on the RB .32. Interesting though that the numbers on the 100 gr. .32 weren't higher.

The barrel in the white sure matches your reciever well

The 45 caliber numbers that are almost 800 fps are with a tuned 909 . That was tuned to produce its power on 2300-2400 psi . About 30 fps slower than what Will tunes his to be . The first two strings on the 32 readings that are low are with RB that were not sealing well . The high 45 grain readings are from my mini maxi balls . This rifle is right in line with my JH32 and .308 Corsair now . Marvin

The Corsair at this point . And I dont think that will change . The trigger on the Corsair can be tunned way down .Marvin

It is easier to change the spring in only because it does not have as much spring to compress going back in . The JH can take a couple trys before cooperating . And it is less expensive , not as good looking . But it makes up for that in power . And that trigger .Marvin

I'd like to see you play with the low power cocking position using a much lower fill pressure (maybe 2000psi for starters?), and see how long of a string you can come up with using your super-light slugs. Bet it will still be pretty fast.

Plan on doing it . But I want to finish up the 117 grain work first . The fill needs to drop down to tighten that up some .Marvin

All fills on both days were regulated fills . All bullets were sized to .3115 . The barrel sluged at .3125 . Both days were filled from same 80 cf tank . Start psi was 3300 . Ended with 2250 psi . It looks as if I am getting the same energy from the 81 grain bullets that I am from the 117 grains . Had a 197 fpe 45 caliber and now I have a 167 fpe 32 out of the same rifle . But with as much shooting as I do I will use this rifle now instead of it just collecting dust . The Gargoyle will be the 45 caliber when it is needed .
I also have a barrel that is not fussy about its lead . And from what I have seen out of it as well as my JH which has the same barrel I have not lost accuracy either . Marvin

Looks like a nice set-up with that 28" barrel and the bullets you are using. That's a 500cc tank on the gun, right?

Thanks Marvin. The single tube is listed at 244 cc, so 380 sounds about right. Its tough to find the tank volumes of certain PCPs. Lots of partial lists out there. I was thinking one of the big Koreans had 500cc, but I must have it confused with something else.

The Korean Sumatra's have 500cc reservoirs....I don't know of any of the Korean bigbores having 500cc reservoirs.

Thanks Butcher. At least I had the country right, LOL. It seems that a big tank ought to go hand in hand with a big caliber to give an extra shot or two depending on the power level.

Those low power/super-light boolit numbers are very encouraging......maybe mess around with some 80grainers on low.......might even try some SLIGHTLY different hammer springs/fill pressures to see if there is improvement? I wonder how many shots you'd get at POA at 75 yards with some of those strings.......pretty good shot count!

Looks like you've got enough velocity to spare with super-light stuff on low power to try some heavier slugs and still get some respectable velocity on low power with a low pressure fill!

I like to keep things going 850 fps . for 50 plus yards . The 45 grains drop-ed about 100 fps . So that would boarder line my 81 grains as far as I am concerned . Just the way I look at things right now . Get to going much slower than that and the hold over gets out of line and the groups start to open up .Going to shoot it as is for a while . I am sure that a little more spring would help . But these rifles are not easy to find springs that fit well and they are a pain to take apart to replace the spring .For what little gain there would be . IMO. 45 grains for windless days on low and 81 or 88 grains on high when the wind picks up . If I have to tear into it latter or if I get tired of it this way and want to play at a latter date I will try another spring .Marvin

You never know until you find out. It may be more efficient with the 80grainer than you think. Remember the 3 BHN making a difference thing, and 100psi in fill pressure making a difference.....might work the same with that valve on low power and boolit weight.

I like to see over 850-900fps, too. The 80 grainer may be more useful on the larger species of small game, and/or longer range shooting.
