1377 mods, what now?

Hi all. I recently got a 1377 "American Classic" from my brother that had belonged to my dad. It is an earlier model that has a sliding gate, and a pull knob, instead of a bolt. I've looked at a lot of threads and they all have one thing in common...a telling of all the mods and improvements that the person has done to them! They remind me of the Ruger 10-22 in rimfire circles. Is there anyone in the history of airguns who has used them in the stock form without mods? If so I'd like to speak to you... both of you
. Just kidding. But what can I expect from one in stock condition. I put a couple drops of "sauce" in it and it seems to pump well and hold pressure. I would like to use it, as is, for a while, as money for "add ons" comes kind of slow on a fixed income. When I do start adding to it, what can be done to one of these earlier models as compared to the current type? Is an older type like this even worth adding to or just leave it and use it as is? Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Nice shooter "as is", and I would not mod one of the earlier series if it were me.
Especially being a family heirloom. If the Modding bug bites you, pick up a recent series III and have at it, more parts and info available for those.

Here is a thought that will keep you up at night... I am a Grandpa of 11... Yep, they think I am a "role model".

I agree, I'm constantly looking for an early model 1377 just like the one you have there. I almost had one once but it slipped away. I would leave it just as it is.

I agree with Scot and Bill, pick up a new one to experiment with. But polishing to trigger parts or even just lightening the sear spring wouldn't be too invasive and would be a nice improvement.

IMHO Nothing wrong with "cleaning it up". New piston cup. O-rings on valve & valve clean up. Transfer port & seal.
Keeping the integrity of the "old gun"(again IMHO) you could change it to a flat top piston & ported & pinned valve w/an enlarged transfer port. Probably a 25/50+FPS increase in power.
No matter your choice I would for sure do the lube & clean and add a new pump arm pin(
http://mellonair.myfreesites.net/solid-pins
and the adapter & bushing. And a trigger/sear smoothing with a new trigger spring from AC Customs on Ebay

Lots of info & video about Crosman triggers out there.
Have fun.... I have a number of the older(130, 1300) Crosmans and they are fun to bring them back to & above their original performance.

Mine was a rear cocker with the sliding bolt probe. I rebuilt mine and kept all the original parts if I wanted to restore it. I didn't have a problem rebuilding, just hated seeing it sitting around not being used anymore. They are easy to reseal if you want to keep it in the original condition. You can go to crosman's custom shop have one built the only thing you would have to do is add the FTP and valve to it.
