Marauder Baffles

I know the Marauder is already a very quite PCP but has anyone ever cut the baffles in 1/2 to double the # of baffles? If so how did it work out? I'm toying with the idea of trying it but it is always nice to know if someone else has tried something and how it worked out before you mess things up.

tony with talon tunes sells a kit with extra baffles and a shroud extension that i bought, the baffles are for a 25 caliber but work just fine with my 22.

you could always try it out for us. cut down enough to put 8 instead of 4. might work. have you priced the baffles?

baffles are $5.40 each for .22 and .177.  $5.93 for .25 cal.

I was hoping someone had tried it. I more then likely will try it but the only problem I see is if it does not work I would have to buy a second set to get it back to what it was. Buying 4 is OK but having to buy another 4 would be a bit much.

yea that's what i was contemplating. might as well order 8 @ $43.2 and if it works sell the other 4 if not, good to go - $43.

let me show you what I did to quiet down my .177, .22, .25.  started with 3 baffles, then brought it down to 2 baffles to a total of 6 baffle for each rifle. I  move the shroud forward after seeing what Edgun did with the shroud.  I did the same to my mrod pistol, but no baffles( same as FX Royale 400, no internal baffles).  3 baffle will sometimes clip if clear silicone o-ring is not in correctly.   the pistol set screw will have to be file down, so you put the shroud fully on.  but rifle set screw is clear enough to set.  Just make sure the clear o-ring is in before you tighten things down.  much quieter with 6 baffles compare to 4 baffles. cost $10.40 for 2 baffles.  I didn't want to spend $70 on that Talon kits, thinking Edgun have the same bare barrel showing idea.

I fixed the baffle issue with Mr.Clean magic erasers cut in strips and placed between baffles all the way to the receiver.
They are pure melamine which has excellent sound absorption
and really cleans everything you scrub with it.

3$ for a box of magic erasers
a few cuts with scissors
unscrew the shroud place Magic as you rescrew
Quieting down my .25 Mrod
      Priceless

Sounds like this stuff would be good for shrouds on AG's fer sure... I wonder if it is the same foam tubing that insulates different size water pipes..

i also just bought a tko muzzle break for my 22 , it should be here this week.

Have you heard that removing the shroud and baffles and using a TKO works better? Which TKO are you getting? Keep us posted on hoe it works out.

It is very simple to do .
1. unscrew the shroud and pull to the end exposing all baffles but not off the gun.
2.Cut the magic eraser in 3rd's.
3. wrap eraser around the barrel at the mouth of the shroud and spin the shroud over the eraser.
4. keep spinning and filling until you get to the breech and screw it back in.
5.check shroud alignment.
6. shoot.

cool that's how i was thinking about doing it. everyone else went to great extremes to keep it from touching the barrel for accuracy reasons. did you notice any change in poi or grouping?

I bought a "2 pack" of Mr. Clean MAGIC Erasers $3.47 at Walmart. I would describe them as more of a cleanser-impregnated sponge than a foam, white, 5"X3"X3/4" . I wadded 2 small pieces up and stuck them in my ears...not much sound reduction...unlike the pink 3M 1100 Foam Ear Plugs which will very effectively protect your hearing from just about anything (would be nice to find that material in 1/4" sheet format - i'm going to call 3M about that possibility).

The eraser did seem pretty magical on my neglected bathroom sink, fixtures, and tile. Less fooling around with airguns and more doing of chores is indicated... but THAT's just crazy talk! 

Water pipe insulation I would describe as more of a foam and I believe designed for thermal insulation, not noise suppression. IF I could get the shroud off my Trail (no luck with my heatgun so far...may have to upgrade to the propane torch), I would try packing it with eraser...altho from the descriptions above not sure how dense it was packed and I would suspect I would have to figure out some way to make the barrel slippery when reinserting it into the shrould. Wetting it with rubbing alcohol might work...but how to keep the eraser from bunching up. Or maybe 3M spray gluing the eraser to the barrel first, then wetting the inside of the shroud.

And actually I don't expect this to significantly quiet the gun which is already very quiet if shot outside and most of the noise comes from the action, not the barrel. All IMO.

The rubbing alcohol (that's isopropyl from your local drug store) trick I found out about when one end of the surgical tubing on my slingshot began to slip off because I pulled too hard. Turns out the alcohol will keep the metal slippery and wet long enough to slide the tubing on...it's not fun tho.

foam and insulation things doesn't work as well as more baffles.  short or long.  I'll try to do a sound test with 1 and 2 and 3 more baffles tomorrow.  the reason Talon Tunes is selling the 2 more baffles for $70. it works.

i have tonys shroud extension and 2 baffles and a tko muzzle break and if i fire my marauder i hear a lot more "noise" but if i have someone else fire it and i am off to the side all i hear is a hammer sound and then the pellet hitting.

I tried the magic eraser in the baffles with the screen around the magic eraser to keep the pallet passage way open and I also tried from the back end of the shroud and I did not see a bit of difference.
Nipper how did you get the tko onto the end of the barrel? Did it seem quieter with the tko and no baffles and no shroud?
Eddielee did you try shorter baffles in the factory shroud? I was thinking of ordering 4 more and cutting them in 1/2 to see what it would do. Worse case would be that I would have to buy 4 more if it did not work any better.

getting a TKO will be quieter.  TKO makes one that slip over the shroud, but I didn't like the look of a huge 1.25 inch extened look.  I went with extended extra baffles, which works the same to quiet down the report like my picture above.  I didn't want to bother with cut them down.  might work, but TKO says only length matters, so give me the idea that getting extra baffle work better then extra chambers.
