I set up at 20 yards

the first 4 shots at half power went through my brand new bale and half way through a 3" foam surfboard into the next bale, 4 arrows and I lost 2 nocks and broke a shaft trying to move the bales and get the arrows out 



So I took the 315gr points off and reinstalled the 100gr ones to diminish momentum and power with a lower weight arrow





the lower weight arrows didn't fully penetrate the foam board ( but still is going to be a nightmare to move the bales and get the arrows out,

The scope was pretty close to zero so I shot the 3 remaining arrows I had,......you can tell the set up has serious potential and even at low power is definitely deadly






I have to regroup here and figure out a way to be able to shoot without losing and having to move my bales to retrive arrows without breaking breaking them

That thing is pretty wicked. I have not shot archery in 15+ years but I thought we used to have something to shoot into that would allow the arrows to come out of it easier but been so long I can't remember.

If you can get a bunch of scrap shrink wrap and pack it tight in a large box about 18" deep, back it with a few layer of old jeans, it will stop them.. It stops my crossbows bolts in 12” at 350 fps..

 One reason they are hard to remove is because the tips are larger diameter than the shaft, as arrow passes through the target, the target material closes up around the shaft which makes it harder to remove.
 I had that problem with my carbon arrows with a tip that slipped over the arrow shaft, that little lip made it hard to remove my arrows from the target

I got those 3 arrows out this morning and the tight group destroyed one more shaft





so one snapped shaft one cracked two lost nocks ( recovered one of the cracked shaft ) so after day one 3 usable arrows left 






I bought a new bale and rearranged my set up



Those where the Foam boards that where behind the bales



What I'm gonna do next is to get a few more of those and set them up in front of the bales



I put the word out and I'm waiting to hear from people that have some sitting around, once I get enough material I'll resume this mission

manny how loud is the gun shooting arrows? and where can you buy more arrows?looking at the depth of penetration of the arrow into those hay bale/surf boards, you'll probably get a pass threw on a hog,once you put a blade edge on it.very interesting setup,just when i thought i was done buying,air gun stuff, wonder if i can get arrows like that for my 45 cal 909's ,

I only shot at low power and It's not bad at all,

I believe a passthrough is certain, I was pretty surprised by the extreme penetration, on that subject I'm rethinking my set up,I'm now looking to make the points in the 175-200gr range and will only use the 3 blade Snuffers,
also I need to shim the scope, it was at max elevation and still was shooting low.

I was thinking about the option for the company to make arrows for the .45s but I think since you need to fold the vanes .45 might be a bit tight

Jim Chapman had the same problem when he reviewed this set-up.  At 60 yards, he Robin Hooded one arrow and destroyed more just by the force of the impact.

Here is the cheap alternative I used to get an arrow shooter. I turned this 1/2" derlin rod in my drill press and added the o-rings.

Trial and error for fit, used it in my DAQ .58 and got 350 fps for 2 shots.  Used a crossbow bolt which was cut to 17 inches with a 100 grain field point.

To keep it centered in the barrel, I drilled out a cork the size of the shaft, cut it in half, centered by pushing each half in the muzzle. The cork separates almost immediately allowing an accurate shot.

The WOW! factor is short lived, the cost of broken, lost arrows/bolts and legal hunting areas make it a bad choice for me in NY.

But it was still fun

A discarding-sabot air-powered bolt-gun.  This is brilliant.  Using crossbow bolts is a good idea given the very-increased popularity.  Even Wally-world has a big selection of 'em.

from what i seen on the video ,thinking that after buying a arrow pack,you should be able to remove the nocks and tip,s from broken arrow,s and replace with new arrows of same diameter,with some heat and glue,and maybe some one with some machining knowledge could make some new tip,s and nocks to sell,arrows are easy to buy and cut to length,just need proper diameter,vanes can shaved a bit,won't need indexing,just a idea,cause i agree this change,s air gun ,crossbow,archery,hunting,in my opinion take,s it to the extreme,as for hunting broad heads the selection is massive , and can be made custom by machinist as to weight and so on,now hunting regulations and places that allow this type a weapon is another thing .

I watched the air Bolt demo at theTexas Air Gun Show. They were using a double thickness bag designed specifically for crossbows shooting over 400 feet per second. It was still penetrating almost to the vanes. 21" bolts so 17" to 18" of penetration. They were using (I believe) a Sam Yang and getting over 500 fps with the bolt.

I also listened to Rossi and Jim Chapmen about using the bolts. Apparently the American Airgunner production crew put a bolt completely through their production van. Jim said he a pass through on a hog that that then stuck so far into a tree that he couldn't pull the bolt out.

With a speed of over 500 fps and the bolt weight of over 400 grains, they were getting close to 250 fpe.

You better have a serious backstop when using these.

500+ FPS is scary power even with low-mass arrows.  I've had pass-throughs with old longbows that pull only 46 pounds on whitetail.  I'd be really worried about what's behind the prey at those power levels.  Then my other issue with these for hunting would be prey "jumping the string". 

On the other hand, arrow-heads like my hex-blunts (small game blunt-tip) would be quite interesting at that power level on squirrels (which can never be quite dead enough) and ground-hogs.

That is why I'm using the gun at half power, I think it's more than plenty,

shot threw there production van  ,,wow glad no one was in side it or was hurt,500 fps with a 400 grain arrow, and that,s from a non tuned one, or one on helium ,which you know sooner or later someone will use those,i will be looking into getting some nocks and arrows and tips that will work in my 909,s,.got plenty of broad heads, ::)keep up the progress manny , can't wait till you go bag a hog with it.
