Went up to the range this morning. Too windy to get good groups at 100 yards (I'd say a 5-10 mph gusting to 20+ "breeze" generally coming from around 2 o'clock but subject to change), so I moved in to 50 yards to ease the frustration.

Got this group at 50 yards with my Gen 2 .22 Mrod. Totally stock with factory settings, it's as it was when I took it out of the box a few months ago. I only mention it because the Gen 2 in .22 has a spotty reputation. I'm pretty happy with mine.

5 shots using H&N FTT 5.53. Three on the bull, I'm blaming the two low and left on the wind

Almost covered by the dime. I figure just over 1/2" CTC.

Finished up my morning by vaporizing a couple dozen brittle plastic green army men at 20 yards.
Aim, squeeze, gone. SUPER satisfying!

Wow, I'm hoping to get there with my Mrod .22
Some days really good groups and other days not so much. I'm hoping a regulator will help some. I notice it shoots much better at around 2000psi than it does at 2800-3000.

Right now, I'm not touching anything until it NEEDS to be touched. Last time I chrony'd it I got 20 shots from (I think) 2800 (maybe 2850) psi down to (I think) around 2400 psi with a curve that started at 856 FPS, went up to 865, then finished at 855 for shot 20. Takes about 50 strokes to pump it back up for the next 20 shots.

I'm happy with getting two tight magazine's between fill ups.

Are you using a scope level or consistently aligning your crosshairs with a line on the target? Shooting in the field I am a poor judge of what is plumb and level and without referencing my scope level I get similar groups as you at longer ranges.

Scott - I've tried JSB 15.89 and 13.43's and they didn't shoot as well as the H&N FTT 5.53's. I'm always surprised when I do pellet testing, for as many people that have success with JSB's I don't have anything that likes them the best. To be fair, I try to stick with a dome shape in a "mid" range weight so a lot of JSB's other styles/weights/shapes get passed over and there may be something in their stable that may work as well or better.

No scope level used, my brain hates something off kilter so it usually lets me know. I'm not quite to the point of being OCD (although pictures that are crooked on a wall get straightened as soon as I see them) but I'm very sensitive to seeing things that are a little "off". Even with no visible reference my brain can (usually) tell when something isn't vertical or horizontal. Always a possibility but I feel pretty confident about blaming the wind yesterday. It was blowing out of the 2 o'clock position and despite trying to wait for a sweet spot I think there was enough variation even when the wind was "steady" to drift a couple down and out. 50 yards is a lot closer than 100 but a lot can still happen within that 50 yards.

Thanks Tim. I don't know if I got lucky with the barrel or if Crosman is stepping up their game with the .22 barrels. I ordered a couple 18" barrels recently (I know they're not the same as the Mrod barrels) and they both needed work. One looked great but didn't seem to like any pellets I fed it, the other had a burr at the transfer port so it got removed and I touched up the crown. The one I worked on LOVES AA 16 gr domes, the other will get worked on when it gets called up for a future build.

Don, sorry. If it makes you feel better there wasn't anyone else there and the sunrise wasn't really that spectacular so it was pretty "boring"

Right out of the box this .22 synrod has been right on accurate. Old ladies, old men, with no experience, are instant snipers at my backyard range.
Got my 44th squirrel today, no crawl offs, farthest shot 62 yds. I don't know, it's crazy, but I'm thinking of upgrading, but could only hope to achieve what I already have. Plus this rifle is super quiet.

That's some great shooting!!! You won the Barrel Lottery Blue!!! I wasn't so lucky with mine. I got descent groups after much pellet testing but tiny groups like those were few and far in between. I should have bought a different barrel, but traded her for a .25 Gen2 which turned out great. That eventually got sold for a profit!!! So the .22 Mrod was a profitable gun for me!!! Lol

I also lost on the barrel lottery twice with the one I had. If it would have shot as good as yours I would still have it.

Thanks, I honestly thought I'd have to at LEAST work on the barrel I got and was thinking I might have to try a couple others from Crosman and possibly find a LW or MM barrel.

I jumped straight into a small round of pellet testing after an out of the box chrony session and had such good results with the H&N FTT 5.53's that I was too afraid to even clean the barrel for the first few weeks. I was afraid I'd mess up whatever good juju it had going!

I'm still leary of making ANY changes for now.

I was afraid to order mine in .22 because of all the bad publicity so I got the .25 and very happy with it.
