your good at 100 with no prob.I have the same mold although I had the HP cavity enlarged on mine to a lil over a quarter inch.Ive killed deer at 100 with it threw my extreme 457 which is getting only 40 fps faster.Actually I shot a doe year before last at 103 yards and dropped her on the spot with a shoulder shot.same as you..its the best grouping bullet Ive found in my extreme. The Gould HP right?
The extreme is a little different from the Texan in shot count.I get 2 shots within 1.75 inch at 100 yards .If you teether then maybe a little less but I cant do that in the woods so i never practice that way.Its set up for 2 shots..not really a group. If I were you I would do the same..shoot some groups with one or two shots and see how that groups on the target or just try 1 shot at 3000 psi, then refill back to 3000 psi.I know the gun is set to produce 3-4 shots and I have some that will do the same but in real life event the first shot is all your gonna need and if it hits the mark every time at 3000 psi then you will know your range.last year I did take 2 bucks the same morn with the 457 but outside of that Ive never had to fire the gun twice on the same hunt. That 330 gr bullet moving around 800 fps will rock them. You will see!My first year hunting deer with air rifles was comical!!I say that cause my view of their ability was so off.I did gel tests, accuracy tests, every test you could think of,I prob let 4 nice bucks walk that 1st week not thinking they were giving me a suitable shot.I was looking for a quartering away to avoid bone and come behind the ribs into the lungs and heart!after I got a buck and a doe at the end of the season, the next year I was shooting 75-80 yards, breaking shoulder, and dragging deer ;DIll just say in my experience ..if that 330 gr hits the front half of the deer's body, hes going down fast!Dont use that as a rule of thumb cause in any situation you want accuracy to be #1 and that bullet to hit exactly where its aimed but..I guess what Im trying to say is that in the case you hit a inch low,or 2 inch to the right...unless the shot is just way off,get ready to drag!
To me,I think the group is pretty decent at 100 yards. The only shot that stands out is the one a little to the right but that is still within reason.Your gonna see a big diff. in the performance of that 330 gr when compaired to the 230 gr max thou.Ive got prob 20 different bullet molds for the 457 and I only hunt with 2!The 330 gr lyman and I have a 340 gr NOE hp that's a close 2nd.Ive shot deer with the maxi,250 gr wfn,280 gr hp and 300 gr wfn and hands down the 330 hp has been my choice.I used the 280 for awhile but my problem was the 1 st shot was dead on and the 2nd being about 3 inch high.the 330 gr ran about 3/4 of a inch high on the 2nd shot so I switched. After I shot my 1st deer with the 330 gr I was glad I did.
I shot the Texan today at 200 yds and 150 yds it was doing pretty good at 150 until the 5th shot went hi in the bullseye, but not really all that bad even at 200 for a factory air rifle.[/img]
