Help! AAs500 or BSA r-10 mk2

Im returning a Hatsan gladius because it doesn't cycle magazines and I'm having reservations for a British spotter with a nice stock. Which one and why

Go through the specs carefully.  I believe the BSA includes a regulator where the AA does not.

The BSA is regulated. I took my BSA R-10 mk2 out and shot it a bit today. I'm amazed at how gorgeous it is every time I take it out of the case. After shooting my LGU and HW97k, my scoped R-10 feels light as a feather and very well balanced. It's also quieter than the LGU or 97K. If you can't shoot through the same hole every time at 20 yards it's not the guns fault.  I get it out just to see how my trigger pull is sometimes when shooting my springers. I've shot it out to 50 yards a few times.... ah heck, let me just give you a link to my review.

I wouldn't trade it for an Air Arms S510 XTRA Ultimate Sporter which costs 400-500 dollars more.  If I did go Air Arms I would look into installing a regulator, which involves drilling a small hole in the air tube. 

This guys has a lot of info on the S510 in his older videos. the S510 was the only PCP he used at the start.

For me it would be the BSA hands down,
repeater, regulated, hammer forged barrel, sweet stock
and most seem to have pretty nice wood on them to,
and the accuracy definitely seems to be there.
the R10 is definitely on my wish list and gets rave reviews.

Thanks for all the feedback! The BSA clearly has a little more going for it while I'm sure the AA is one *(&^ of a rifle... I don't think I can pass up a regulated accurate rifle with a Minnelli walnut stock.. Seems too good to be true. But I've seen so many people say they're great so I will get a BSA! Il post pictures when I receive it and let you all know what I think

I think the brits get a bull barrel version while here in the states we

Mine is quieter than my spring guns. Seems like I get around 40 shots before going off the regulator. Been a while since I checked it.

what pellets do you shoot in yours?

JSB exact 15.89's and CPHP 14.3's both do very well.  It not too fussy about pellets. You can see the 50 yard groups in my review for these 2 on a windy day. Was trying to shoot when the wind wasn't blowing as much. I like JSB's cause most of my guns do best with them. CPHP's is a bonus cause the cheap and easy to get.

Brits are used to 12 fpe airguns with efficient LDCs that can be bought from every gun shop while Americans are used to the big bang of firearms. The shroud in R10 takes some of the bang away but it is not quiet as such. If you don't like the noise level you can buy improved internals for the shroud, get a Huub shroud or ditch the factory shroud and screw on a proper LDC. Of course DIY internals or DIY bigger shroud are also options.

I don't know which BSA 5-10 you have been shooting but I shoot mine in town. It makes less noise than my spring guns. I think you have a different idea of quiet. There is no bark.  My pumpers and Discovery are way to loud to shoot in town. That's a bark now. Your description makes it sounds as the shroud is not really doing anything. When it makes the gun as backyard friendly as a springer, I say it's working well. Yeah, you can make it were you hear nothing but the hammer, but most don't expect or need that. Just backyard friendly. Now if your totally trying to hide your shooting from the neighbors, the barrel is threaded if you need to go there.

I would love to see Air Arms bring a small bottle designed regulated rifle to the market.  Their S5XX rifle with a R10 front end!!

You can expect 35 - 40 shots around 28 - 30 fpe. As rkr said they are not super quiet. The shroud takes the bang and pop out of it. So it depends on how quiet you need. I ditched the shroud on mine and built an ldc to screw on the barrel. Its now very quiet and shorter than it was with the shroud.

Both rifles are solid performers and you would be happy with both. The R10 in my opinion offers more for the money.

Well, my idea of quiet is that the loudest noise you hear is the pellet ripping through the cardboard of a silent pellet trap. Then there's the muzzle report and hammer slap both being about equal and overshadowed by that noise from the target. Then there's backyard friendly category which of course depends on the backyard I'm not saying that shroud doesn't do anything, it's just very poorly executed (due to design changes to cut down production costs) and could be much more quiet.

Depends on the marauder. .22 Mrod? Nope .25 Mrod? Yes. It lands somewhere between the two.

If the R10 isnt quiet enough for you with the factory shroud just get someone to make you a screw on ldc. Then it will be shorter and quiter

aa sXXX guns are better built and finished better, the bsa has more features for you money spent. Either gun functioning properly has the capability to shoot dimes at 50yds but, If you take our opinions you won't have what you really want... Ask me how I know, I've been through piles of airguns, don't get me wrong I loved many of them. There was always something missing. Always had to tinker/change something be it as a reg, better barrel, power level change etc. So either build what you truly desire or find something as close as you can. The two guns you have listed aren't really apples to apples only you can decide what ya want.
