 Is the Maximus the same as the Discovery? I am considering jumping into the pcp arena. Nothing fancy or competitive but also was thinking about a BNM breech if it would fit?

If you are thinking about the Maximus with a BNM breech just buy the Marauder and skip the hassle. Be careful of jumping in the PCP arena, the force is strong on the dark side.

Tony, to answer your question, the Maximus is basically a Discovery with a synthetic stock and two inches more barrel.  I would recommend it to someone who wants to try on "The Darkside" to see if it fits.

I just checked the Crosman site - the Parts Availability and Parts Diagram sections are not letup yet.  When I had asked earlier this year, I was told the Oarts Diagram would be available about six months after the rifle was introduced.  So, I am guessing about December.

I wonder if that threaded adapter is going to be available. It should be since they are now selling the Euro version here. Next time I place a parts order I'm going to run the euro threaded adapter part number by them, maybe it's the same one they're using on the maximus now. If so... maybe I can get one before the EVP is out.

This is the first i have heard of the valve is different. I know the hammer spring is different. Can you care to explain how the valve is different.

Thanks for the info folks. I would love to get the Marauder but its a little outta my reach that's the reason I am looking at the Maximus. I am looking at the Discovery as well. I don't know why I want to upgrade to PCP haven't shot my Steele Eagle that much and still need to get the scope sighted in but the call of the PCP is getting louder! Thanks again

I would agree that the Disco/Maximus is like a gateway drug. By the time you improve one to do what most folks want (moderator/shroud for noise, possible BNM breech for repeater, trigger upgrade, power adjuster or SSG for efficiency), you paid for your Marauder. (don't overlook the Marauder refurbs at 360-380 or buy a used one already tuned, IMO either is a better option than dropping a buck on a new one.)

That said, the Disco/Maximus have two advantages that some folks like - They are a fair bit lighter, good for a long day in the woods.  And the low 2K fill pressure means they are easy to fill with a pump or a low cost aluminum scuba tank.  Those two things combined with the price point continue to make it a compelling gun, even if you never make another change to it.

Do you have all the support equipment too?  A pump or tank?

There is/was a sale at Cabellas that would have yielded a Marauder for $316+tax/s/h but then you need a tank/pump too. AirgunDepot has a Maximus Pump combo deal for I think about the same price.

Well...kind of. It definitely has the capacity for several fills, but there is a little more to the story.  Many airgun tanks have a 2900psi regulator, so you would need to adjust the marauder to a 2900 max fill. Also, you will still need to purchase a hose and valve assembly to connect the bottle to the gun (and be able to safely disconnect it after fill).  Don't buy &^^& fill equipment or you will end up buying it twice.

If you need portability, you will like having a small tank like this even if you get a big one later.  If portability isn't an issue  - and especially if you get an optimus/disco - consider that for this price you could mostly buy a new 80 cubic foot scuba tank ($169). The carbon tank has a DOT-mandated 15-year life span, not so with the aluminum.

That said.... once you get the tank, you are likely to get more PCP guns. Most of those will be 3000-3300psi fill, so in the long run you would value having a higher pressure tank.  As for me... I have a large aluminum scuba tank as well as a large carbon tank....because you can't have just one.

Never underestimate the POWER of the Dark side (I bet you read that in Vaders voice!). But, owning both a nice PCP and a couple of springers. Warning more Star Wars quotes! "I feel it Grandfather, the pull to the light". A nice springer can do the same job as the Maximus, single shot, deadly accurate, plenty of power, and no support equipment. No pump, no tank, just cock-load-shoot. The Maximus will set you back $200.00 some plus the cost of your tank setup. Check out Flying Dragon's XC46U fully tuned its $235.00, I love mine. You can also jump into the world of the Dark side (sorry no cookies) with C02. The QB78 is a well regarded gun that can be purchased in the sub $200.00 range.
So with all that said am I trying to talk you out of the Maximus....NO WAY! If that's what you want go for it and I guarantee you will have a ball. Just realize there are other very worth while options.

Well I had the same thoughts, I did the crosman site, bought the gun and pump, pellets, the rest give away. With the maximus what I like at 73 yo, is the fill pressure 2000 shoot down to 1400/ 1500 re pump to full 30/40 pumps. The rifle shoots right on 30/50 yds. as the fertilizer, will attest too. You need to do some shooting and find where you are at, I think you will love it. But as others point out, it will lead you to other wants, and tanks and guns. Be warned. Already thinking

Sorry I just put out a post, you will need a scope( I think) I had 2/3 on the bench with rings, so I was all set. The front sight would spin on the barrel, and who EVER packed at Crosman the pellet can was open, right 500 pick-up here I come but I called ( to bit-- and a nice lady sent a new can, 2 days later with out my asking. The shipper of the rifle  UPS, looked like it had been run over. I would hope Crosman did not ship in that condition. Sorry for the rambling

Although I do agree these are great beginner guns I hafta say I'm not really a beginner in these PCPs anymore and I just bought 2 more discos recently to play around with and mod. Even though the Mrods are much better out of the box I still modded the heck outta mine where I woulda been better with a more expensive gun to start with but it's fun to learn these things.

I have heard also that the valve and tube is different and heavier duty 8x32 screws won't work as the valve is not up to added pressure. I will wait till someone takes it apart for sure !!
