2260 is like a new air rifle

I recently bought a 2260MB that I really like.  Fit/finish and workmanship were great.  The barrel left a little to be desired, it had a tiny bur out by the muzzle that failed the q tip test.  It did not like a lot pellets except for JSB, it shot both 18.1 and 15 grain JSB pellets very well..............but that was the extent of what it liked.  Someone on the forum pointed me towards Mellon air guns for a new barrel http://mellonair.myfreesites.net and I am glad he did.

I got my barrel after about 3 weeks and the crown was cut and polished beautifully.  The barrel is not picky at all, it pretty much will ragged hole Crosman premier dome, RWS superdome, JSB 18.1 and 15grn, Polymags and H&N Barracuda pellets at 10-12 yards.  I plan on backing it out to 22 yards in the next few days to see what it really likes but I am really happy with 33 dollars shipped that it cost.  I had 4 shots going with RWS superdome that were no BS as close to in the same hole that I have ever done and blew it on the 5th shot.

Cool deal on the Mellon barrel. That's not to bad of a wait for getting a part from Charlie either. I like the looks of these with the shorter barrel too.

When the package was not on the door step and in the mailbox I thought "no way, he must have sent me a 14".  Nope, 18" exactly and yes I agree, after I put it it on with the TKO it looked like the perfect carbine for backyard .22 work.

Next step is step up to a m-rod trigger. That's one of the best mods I've done to mine. It is a real nice trigger group.

That is what i hear.  I can't believe there are not more people shooting these 2260 metal breaches.  For 149 dollars you get a ton of gun in .22 caliber.  I guess Co2 cartridges can be a turn off to some people.

No. I think the QB78 is based off the original crosman design.

Similar but not quite the same.  The QB78D has a good barrel and an excellent trigger group for $40 less.

Similar but not quite the same.  The QB78D has a good barrel and an excellent trigger group for $40 less.

I have a QB78 and a AR2078 both great right out of the box, although the AR could use some trigger work....not owning a 2260, don't see how u can go wrong with either gun...both highly mod worthy...good luck

Nice rifle. But I don't think you understand the term "key hole." 
If I bought a new barrel and it keyholed, I would be sending it back post haste.

You are correct key holing would be tumbling pellets.

I keep trying to keep a 2260 more or less out-the-box stock...and I keep failing.

Just once, I really need to leave one alone and keep it as a simple one 12gr. co2 rifle. At the very least, keep my hands off other than a little tuning for more shots per 12gr.

(And yes, a 2260 does end up giving more shots for a single 12grs. than the QB/double 12gr types do per 12gr.).

Maybe now is the time....gonna push the order button.


Nope...already thinking about what I might do to it...so I'd likely just end up making something from it that it wasn't intended to be....and still be thinking "I should have left it alone" this time next year.
