Author Topic: Picked up a Sheridan 2260MB (Read 9626 times))

I have been trying to decide on my next air rifle after buying a Benjamin Summit NP2. Marauder, Discovery, Umarex Fusion and the Sheridan were all on the list. Most of my shooting in my backyard is 10, 15 and 23 yards when I stretch it. The Marauder and Discovery just seemed to be a lot of air rifle my backyard and if I am driving to shoot somewhere............I'm going to shoot my 22-250 or one of my AR15's. I really liked the Umarex Fusion due to how quiet it was but I really wanted to stay with .22 cal and get something with a wood stock. So I got the Sheridan 2260 metal breach, seems like its just a Crossman Heritage 2260 with metal breach.

I ordered a TKO muzzle brake for it and a 40 pack of CO2's. It should be perfect for quietly punching paper in the backyard and maybe some rat's at night. Also this gun seems to be pretty compact which will be nice when I help my 5 year old plink some cans and such. I got it with a tube or Pellgun oil for 152 shipped with a free shipping promo at airgun depot, hopefully it turns out to be a good shooter. I plan on putting my 4 power centerpoint on it that came with my Summit until I decide on something better. Any info/opinions on this rifle is appreciated.

I think you made a good hoice on the 2260. They are decent out of the box but can get better with some mods. The trigger needs some work to feel better. I put a marauder trigger on mine and love it. If anything just have fun with it.

I just purchased one also, I used to have a crosman pellgun 180 that I gave to my son and this gun looked real similar to it. The only differences that I see is that you don't have to cock it after putting a pellet in it and the trigger is plastic and very stiff. I just hope it is as accurate as the 180, that thing was a tack driver!

I to am hoping for it to be accurate inside 25 yards. I am looking forward to having a nice quiet rifle that does not need to be cocked or pumped.

I've shot mine a little now and just realized that maybe I should of cleaned out the barrel first, it's shooting pretty good but not yet like that old 180. That sucker would keep all shots in a dime at 25 yards.

Thanks for the update. Yes, I modified a .22 cal boresnake by pulling out the brass brushes. When I get the Sheridan I will spray a little Mpro7 on the front of the boresnake and pull it through a few times. This is what I did with my Benjamin Summit. Glad to hear your rifle is shooting good though, heck sometimes they get better after you lead them up with 500 pellets or so.

The other thing that I wanna do is swap out that trigger, I have a .25 marauder trigger that I hear will work and make things a little better. But looking at the gun I can't see how you can take the stock off of the gun because of the safety, it's just in the way. The trigger is the hardest to pull and break than any gun that I've ever owned, even worse than my Ruger 10/22.

The safety comes out pretty easy. If you look in front of the trigger by the safety button you'll see a spring leg. You need a small screwdriver or pick to pull that leg out of the way. Then the safety can just be pushed out. The m-rod trigger is a huge improvement. I did it to mine and it was probably the best mod I've done to it. You should get the spacer fron Norm at discosrus to do it right. Here is how my 2260 looks now. Not much from the original gun left.

I have an older 2260 that I put the Baker Airguns brass trigger in. It improved the pull a lot after I compressed the weird safety sear spring a bit to weaken it a little. It was $22 I think. Also put in Mountain Air custom valve for more power 670fps, with 14.3g hollow points, on hot days here in the south. More power gets less shots though, about 18 per co2 cart. Also has RJ aluminum breech.

Thanks for the compliments, I made the sights from a Thompson Center adjustable set fastened to a 7/16'' ID piece of tubing that has a set screw to hold it in place. That way I can move it back and forth. The front is a brass pin sight on the TKO. The stock I bought unfinished and rough carved by a stock maker, who is now out of business, about 5 years ago. It is a nice straight grained walnut. I added a Pachmayr pad when sanding the stock.

I'm currently about halfway done modding mine. I'm going to give it to my father as a Fathers' Day gift. Basically, I added a HiPac, tuned it, and have put on some brass bling. Replaced the 24" barrel for an 18" barrel. I have a TKO and scope on the way to the house. It was shooting mid-800s with a 150 bar fill and Crosman Comp Wadcutters. I messed up inletting the stock a bit, but not too badly. He'll still shoot it gladly, I'm sure.

Congrats on your purhcase! They make a fantastic modding platforms, and are pretty accurate out-of-the-box. The fact that they come with the *good* metal breech is just icing on the cake. Just check the set screw that holds the barrel in the breech. I was REALLY frustrated with mine until I found out (on here) that the set screw needed attention. It felt tight, but it was a burr or dirt in the threads that kept it from cinching all the way down.

CO2 guns are GREAT

!!!!!
My old Crosman 160-167-180 and Sheridan F see a lot of action!!! Can't go wrong with a good one!! I shoot my old Benjamin 362-367 8oz cart guns too!!! Days are getting HOT!! Time to pull the co2 guns out!!

Dangit! Now I want one. Had a 2260 Heritage, but was ho-hum. Yours certainly is nicer without being too extreme. I love the clean lines.
