OK.... so here is installment #3 of the 25 yard Field Target Positional Shooting Match.

We will shoot the GTA 30 yard Rested targets of the appropriate caliber.

I shoot .177 and use the .22 caliber (55) target and a .22 caliber scoring plug to make things easier and more inline with the benchrest matches I'm accustomed to.

At the moment, I don't really see any reason to make multiple classes besides just separating PCP from Springer.  I shoot WFTF, and Jim shoots Open....both with PCPs, but we just shoot head to head.

I'm not sure if there will be any real participation from forum members, so I say we just lump Hunter, Open, and WFTF classes together.....and then the same for the guys shooting Springers.

So here are the rules.

Print 3 of the above referenced 30 yard rested targets of your caliber.

Shoot 2 1/2 targets (50 shots) sitting in you FT class appropriate manner at 25 yards.  Please shoot vertical columns of 5.

Shoot 1 vertical column (5 shots) standing at 25 yards.

Shoot 1 vertical column (5 shots) kneeling at 25 yards.

Score your targets like you would for the 30 yard Rested match and post them here with the overall 3 target total.

If you miss the target rings altogether.....please count that as a 6.

Lets use May 29th @ 7:00 PM as the deadline for submitting scores.

Positions: Sitting & standing, no aids. Kneeling roll.

I plugged the holes with .177 copper plated pellets to make scoring easier. I may have been a little optimistic on the 13x. I pulled the first standing shot badly. I aimed for the wrong bull in standing shot #3.

This gun shoots great off the leg. Better than off the bench. I'll be experimenting with different rest material before the bench rest nationals..







Mike, that was a great offhand sequence that you did on match #2.

Nice job, Scott!  I'm glad you jumped in here.  I read somewhere that you were going to shoot Open PCP this year.....is that true?

I will try to shoot my set sometime this week.  This past Saturday while setting up my daughters rifle..... I discovered that I am actually quite a bit steadier shooting her setup.  It's mostly just that her rifle was setup more compact with a shorter LOP and the scope further forward.  My pulse jump was nearly half of what it was shooting my own rifle.  I have adjusted mine to mimic hers, now....and am excited to see if it bears any real fruit.  I don't think it can hurt.  It also seems quite a bit steadier offhand, too.  Sometimes things seem better, but don't prove out on the target.  This is a good way to find out, I suppose.

I plan on shooting WFTF/Piston at this year's Nationals. Next year, maybe switch to Open/PCP. I still have some reservations about using all that gear (big scope, etc.). But I recently got a USFT/Nikko combo that I hope to play with more after the 2016 Nationals.

I'm going to try and shoot one of these postal matches each week. Trying different things. Mostly with spring guns for now.

Well, it has been busy....but I finally got to shoot these today.  Shot .177 on the .22 targets and scored with .22 plug.
