Decided it was time and the stock got completely stripped last night. Started sanding today but here's what was hiding under that Hatsan factory finish:

I've done it to my 95 aswell. Be sure to remove the front checkering. It's as ugly as it could be.

I have almost decided to go full ratrod with my stock, but still thinking about it

Just regular paint stripper for the old finish although that stuff is really on there, had to do it twice. Haven't decided on what i'm going to use for stain yet.

I kinda like that checkering even if cleaning the old finish out of it was a pain..debating actually staining it a different color than what i use for the stock...still not sure yet.

The Edge rifles will fit in a Striker wood stock but they don't come unfinished, you'd have to strip and refinish the way you want it.

I got the stripper at the local Ace Hardware, Klean Strip Premium Stripper, comes in a spray can. Just make sure you use a good set of gloves and I got one of the mini brass wire brushes to get the old finish out of the checkering...worked really well without hurting the bare wood.

Did you tape off the checkering before sanding?

I can't see how dark the wood is, but most Hatsan's benefit from a little Walnut or Gunstock stain. After that you can cover with Tru-Oil, Tung Oil or spray Lacquer.

I never taped over the checkering, but I was beyond careful about sanding around all of it. First and probably only coat of stain is on and I'm real happy with the color, I used Minwax Gunstock stain for that.
After about 6 hours or so dry time, I went back and did the checkering with Minwax Rosewood stain to bring the checkering out.
Once everything has plenty of dry time, I'm using Minwax Antique Oil Finish in successive coats until I get the sheen I'm after, but for now, here's the stock stained:

I did 3 other stocks getting warmed up to even attempt this one and to be honest, I'm still a little scared I'm gonna screw up somewhere...lol
Every direction on every can has been followed to the letter so far and the Minwax Antique Oil Stain was recommended by Mike at airgunstocks.com after talkig to him a few times in chat about refinishing stocks, what he uses and getting a few pointers....I have 2 coats of oil on it so far, at least 2 to go before I figure out if it's how I want it to look, then you guys get to see how it turned out.
As scared as I am of screwing up mine, I'd be even worse if that stock was one of yours...lol
