but only if the velocity is 950 fps....
Multiply the pellet weight by 2.... result is the FPE....
Actually, if you consider that 950 fps is a pretty practical limit for airguns both from an efficiency and accuracy point of view.... it's a pretty handy thing to know....

Bob,
So, at 950fps, fpe = 2 x pellet gns
Very cool ! Thanks for that handy tidbit.
Of course, the gun has to be able to actually be able to shoot the pellet at 950 fps, LOL

OK.... How about at 670 fps, the FPE is equal to the pellet weight in grains....
OR.... at 475 fps, the FPE is half the pellet weight in grains....

I am familiar with the formula.... I used it to come up with the numbers....
I just thought people would like an easy to remember one that gives the practical maximum FPE for a given pellet weight....

Now Bob that is pretty cool
, i can remember those figures and could use that for a general guide on any airgun or even revolver. Sure does make 950 a good mark to shoot for i agree, J

My experience has been that there are just so many reasons to aim for 950 fps.... Flat trajectory, not too much drop off in the BC, air usage hasn't started to skyrocket yet in a PCP, and the accuracy can still be great.... Just one more reason in my mind....
Need more power?.... go to a heavier pellet.... If that means a bigger bore, then you have a reason to buy another gun....
