Maybe age is making me appreciate foreign guns more, but maybe not, either way i've ignored the china guns for too long, if you don't count crosman. I've had some tech forces, they were ok but never really impressed me. I read peoples comments on their B guns, people just loved them, and i almost feel the love myself from their many comments but i never owned one. I just did this with Hatsan guns and spanish Gamo's, tried them out and was really impressed. I used to be a german gun snob but no more
am on a buy American kick but whats an AG'er to do
I traded a gun to Bluzjamer and he sent me a .177 SM1000, a 10? year old variant of the B-21, which is a copy of the RWS 48. Honestly i didn't know what to expect, and Bluz wanted to send the gun first before i sent my trade to him so i could check it out, the epitome of a perfect trader but it had me wondering. I sent my gun a day after he sent his and told him i was fine with whatever he sent me
I remembered seeing these for sale in Sportmansguide long ago highly rated, but figured this was a 50/50 chance at quality..
So i get my box today, very well packaged by the way, and pulled out my china gun. Whoa, she big. And pretty nice.. really very nice looking.. i shake it.. no rattles inside.. grab some pellets and head for the back steps to shoot my metal backstop from 25 yards, cock the gun, it's quite smooth, load a pellet and take a shot... my brain does the math on the time from shot to impact, the sound of the familiar impact and the time tells me 950+fps no doubt with the light 1222 beeman hollowpoints, chinese pellets copying the silverbear. VERY IMPRESSIVE, i'll have to chrony to be sure but she shoots strong, and thats before a good tune. I go inside and through the course of the evening have checked it out pretty well, i am truly impressed. My old rws 54 had a nicer finish but this one is parkerized and suprisingly well put together, with well formed and made parts, very tight inletting and metal work, very nice wood that i'm pretty sure is some form of mystery wood but with hints of walnut grain, don't know what it is but it's pretty nice. The dark color and design, along with the red recoil pad remind me of an old winchester for some reason.. In any event, i'm really impressed with this gun from one end to the other, i hope i find that it is capable of decent accuracy, if so i've a favorite new shooter for sure. I'll comment on it as i get a chance to shoot it some more. J

The above link is the most detailed write up of any AG that i've ever seen, the author favorably compares the SM1000 to the RWS 48 and claims that the china gun is just as precise in metalwork and barrels, but even better built. Lots more millings on the china gun and the rws is stamped and folded steel , lots more plastic on the RWS.

I had an RWS 48 and gave it up after I got my B21 (actually a TF21) as I actually liked it better. Now I have the B40 and RWS 54 side-levers... And between those and my TF BS4, I think I am all side-levered out! The SM1000s seem to be an easy gun to enjoy if you like side-cocking rifles that are powerful and accurate...

I agree aack, it's like a military sporter profile and fits real good. The gun is super front heavy though, a perfect target gun but not a good woods gun. I've been shooting it some and it's acceptably accurate although the barrel seems oversized a bit. I mounted one of Airscopes.coms reciever mounts with the overhanging pin for a stop point, and put a leapers 4x on it. I tried quite a few different pellets and most would fall out the breech. One of the only ones that would load ok and shot well was the jsb predator with the plastic tip. At 10 yards it shot 3 through the same hole but at 25 yards it was an 1" group. Could be me or the scope too, so all in all it shows promise. Still have not chronied it and am afraid it's about to get superceded by a new Ruger airmagnum on it's way.
I guess this is about to become a project gun. I think i'm going to chop the barrel, pray for accuracy and put a muzzleweight of delrin or aluminum in place. I'd really like to go about 12" or less and make it a carbine. It needs to be pulled apart and lube tuned at the least, checking for galling inside, replace whatever needs replacing.. The stock is slightly oversized so it will get stripped down, sanded better and i'll practice my first checkering job and then do a hand rubbed oil finish. Should be an awesome gun for the project, i'll post as i go, Jeff

I'm glad it found a good home, only thing I didn't like is the feeding of 177 pellets in the side cocker and the fact that I had 2 of them.
I love the Webley Stingray, It like a baby brother to my Tomahawk.
Did I mention I found a 48/52 locally, in 22 cal my favorite. I must have a side cocker magnet somewhere. Great post Jeff.
Looks better in your place than it did in mine.

Will do AAck and thanks for the trade B,
Since i last posted, David "Rocker1" has scheduled me in for a tune, i'm sending it his way soon and am going to let him work some magic on the internals. And anything else he feels like doing
It might be awhile but you'll be seeing the B21, again

Looks and sounds like a real bargain Jeff. I have done many tunes on the RWS 48,52 and 54's and I must say the design is solid as a rock. I would even venture to buy one of these babies just to see how it compares. Thanks for sharing with us and the link with the great detailed information.

The SM1000's (aka Brolins) were among the first really adult Chinese air guns marketed here in the US. I remember seeing them when they first came out, priced around $120. I said, "I'm not paying THAT much for an AIR RIFLE!!!" Yeah, we all know how that one turned out!

Well thank you Gene and Red
Heres the add that i remember on the "Super Max"
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/supermax-1000-177-cal-pellet-rifle.aspx?a=43380
It was actually this add, maybe 5-6 years ago that got me interested in AG's as an adult. I ended up falling for an in-stock rws 54 at a local gunstore instead but in a way, the supermax is the gun that got me going on adult AG's.
I've descoped mine and just need to pack her up for a trip to Davids

Just for giggles the Stingray was shooting 850-875 FPS on daisy 177's pointed.
The Bam B-25 177 I got from Rane was doing 994-1033 same pellet.
The Remington Sumitt 177 was doing 930-940
The B-21 177 was burnin it up at 1050-1063
These are all stock, think the Stingray had a lube tune.
Browning 800 mag did 602-632 low pellet count...don't shoot it much.

Ran the Supermax over the chrony today, just for the heck of it before shipping it to David for a tune. He's not getting it
Beeman Silverbears did 953-957 for 5 shots straight. It's the least deviation i've seen on a pellet rifle ever. No need to tune yet, i'm going to shoot it awhile and see how it does. It worked out to about 14ftlbs, not a true magnum but not to shabby either.
