I had plan's on doing this to my Super Streak till it went down. So today I took the SS barrel an turned down brass washer's to replace the plastic bushing's crosman has, it was a little work but turned out Great an made a very nice tight pivot for the gun that I think will hold up for year's to come. The barrel I had hand lapped an done a new crown on while I waited for the gun to come in plus taking the sharp edge off of the chamber with a slight bevel to it. So far I have only gotten 25 shot's down(96 out today "whew") but it seem's to have alot of promise in it. I have not placed a muzzel brake or shroud on yet so I'd like to say something on the noise level without one installed, "I" could detect no increase really from behind the gun??? Still all I could hear was a much LOUDER smack of the pellet over the .177 shrouded barrel, I guess I'd have to say the NP's are quiet over all like they claim. I thought the .177 was a hammer in the XL's But the .22 turn's them into a sledgehammer!!! Can't wait for the next grackel to show up on my range.

Jay, I'm thinking I want to hand lap my XL. It will be my first, thus, a couple of questions.
1) Did you follow the routine from the library?
2) What compound did you use?
3) Do you feel the before and after was worth the effort?(I guess its "to be seen")
Thanks!

Paul seem's the forum won't let me look at that part of the library? What I use is JB bore paste on a barrel mop(make's a nice kinda tight fit) an give's the barrel a good final cleaning,of course remove it all. Then I use the bore polish from them as the second pass useing a mop again. I do go light with the passes as the steel in a AG's seem's rather soft compared to a PB's,but I have used this method on all my long range gun's every couple of cleaning's an have never noticed any bad result's in there acc. in geez I'd say 30 year's of useing JB paste. An after the first work over I just go back too like most on here dry patch's.I'd say Paul it's worth it too "me" I've done it to all my AG's an the barrel's stay clean alot longer. The .22 barrel has just 50 shot's down it so far an it's as clean as when I started, zero build up even useing CPHP's in it an the .177 I took off is still VERY clean with about 400 down it? Does it help with the acc. I'm not positive on that? But all my gun's that I've done Start with 3/4" 10 shot group's at 20yd's an just get better as they season in some an the gun's settle in.

The thread in the library details using a lead casting for the lap. You cast it right in the muzzle and work down from there. The idea is to find the tight spots, and then tap the lead casting with another rod to spread it so its snug and work the tight areas till all parts of the barrel offer the same amount of resistance. You stay away from the muzzle to produce a choke. It seems to be a very controllable method, although quite tedious. I think I might give your method a try first, seems much simpler and straightforward.

Yeah Paul that is what true hand lapping is. I've done it to a couple of PB's an I've also used TUBB's bore lapping bullet's with good result's but I was shy of doing that much lapping to a AG barrel? I guess REALLY I should say I "polished" the bore's in my AG's rather than Lapping them in? Sorry if I confused anyone on here about what I do to them. But do give it a try Bro. it seem's to of helped mine along.Fired off another 50 today(about my limit with these beast's) an still as shiney as a new nickel in there.

As soon as I find the time to really go after this thing, I think I'll try your route first, at least until the replacement barrels are available. The barrel does have a couple of slightly snug spots, but I wouldn't categorize them as tight. Perhaps the polishing route is the way to go. Second thought, I could get a SS barrel and practice on that!
