April 17, 2016 -- California, Missouri airgun shoot
« on: March 31, 2016, 05:58:11 PM »
Greetings fellow Missouri airgunners . . . I joined this site specifically to post this message.

I am a long time airgun enthusiast who would love to see some sort of airgun group or club form in Mid-Missouri. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to make such a thing a reality. Still, I got tired of waiting for somebody else to do something so I decided to do what I could. This ain't perfect, but it's what I can do:

I am organizing an informal airgun shoot for Sunday, April 17. I will do this at the California (MO) Shooters Club, about 15 miles west of Jefferson City.

My intention is to have 10-20 field targets, a couple of spinners and a few paper targets. I plan on setting up in an area normally used by archery shooters. There are no shooting benches in this area. Expect to shoot prone, standing, seated on the ground, or bring your own perch. Distances will be between 10 and 50 yards. Iíll head out in the morning to set targets but am assuming most folks will want to shoot in the afternoon. I hope to be out there by 10 a.m. though, so come out whenever you want.  I donít envision this as a formal match or competition, just an opportunity to get together and shoot, compare airguns and see what happens.

If this interests you, post your e-mail here or send me an e-mail and I'll get you details.

Hi Bob..

Sure appreciate your efforts... will do our part (wife & I) to be there,  looks like about a 2 - 3hr drive from here, but will give it our best shot.

You got a reply, I see... from the Josephville Gun Shop, to which you replied...... but, IF... you ever get the chance, by all means go on over to his shop... it's a great time, informal, and a great bunch of fellow enthusiasts there.... if for no other reason,  you'll get to befriend more fellow airgunners..... just watch your hand if you have a Donut in it.... the shop mascot,  LOVES Donuts !!   ;D

It would be about a 2hr drive for you, from California.... it was just shy of 5hrs for us.... ONE Way,  But worth every mile to get there, great time, great folks.

Looking forward to Sunday.
Jim

PS: I have a fair collection of paper targets (no "picture" targets, just various distance - NRA "circle" targets), as well as steel spinner types.... can bring them if we come (yes, we're planning on it.. but, in today's world, things can change in 5 minutes), and if you would like us to bring them. (??)

Sure. Targets are appreciated -- spinners would be great but if you want to shoot paper, bring those, too. I hope you make it.

A big Thank You to Bob for organizing this fun shoot.  It was well attended with plenty of targets to keep us interested.  Just a great group of guys and a beautiful day to shoot, but a little windy at times.

If I recall correctly, we had six airgunners show up (not including me) plus one guy from the local club who came to shoot. Another three or four guys from the club came to watch (and several of them fired at some targets as well). I had a good time. Hope the others did, too.

We set up 20 knock-down targets, a couple of swinger sets and some paper. We had a little bit of trouble with the field targets not falling when struck but everybody was good-natured about it and complimented each other on legitimate strikes even if the critter didn't fall.

A bunch of cool airguns were in evidence. We had a few Chinese clones, a good number of Weihrauchs, a TX200, at least one Diana and a few Crosmans. The big guns were a pair of Marauders, a Daystate and . . . . drum roll . . . a Whiscombe 65. Sorry I didn't get a photo of the Whiscombe. I was too busy drooling.

Bob...

SO SORRY my wife and I didn't make it.... and it looks like it was a great time.   Any future shoots in the works, by any chance ??

To be perfectly honest... out Not coming was My fault..... just Completely "spaced it out" !!.... guess my wife did, as well.... because we were both excited to get there, when you first posted it... My sincere apology.... will not let it slip by again... IF, there is a chance of "redemption" in the form of another shoot.(??)

Looks like the weather up your way... cooperated for you, as well... except for some "tricky wind", that I think I remember reading (below) from one of the fellows who was there..... just makes it "interesting".   ;)

We went to an indoor 10M shoot in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago, with some other enthusiasts from NW Arkansas.... who, also just started a new group there... ("NASA" = Northwest Arkansas Spring gun Association.... they even have shirts already made up with a logo).... anyway, you were talking about "drooling" over the J. Whishcombe 65 that was at your shoot..... the founder of the previously mentioned NASA,  has THREE Whishcombes... including the 2nd to the last one, ever shipped by John to the US.... bought New, from him..... "drooling" is a definite Understatement (!!!).  ;D

Please... keep in touch, and let myself and everyone "here" know of any upcoming shoots,  Thanks...

Jim.
