Scoping a Disco or Discovery

Hi guys & gunner gals,

I bought a Discovery kit on Thanksgiving 2015.  Took it out and test fired it then stuck it away until last week.

I put one of my spare 22 mag 3-9x32AO Simmons scopes on it just to see how it would group.  I used BKL263 rings.  It shoots about 5 inches low & left but groups well at about 50 ft.  I haven't double checked mechanical optical center on the scope.  Just because it's NIB doesn't mean it was centered.  So if it is currently centered I'm  considering  either the BKL26th mount or Burris Signature rings with offset inserts.

If it IS centered  then the BKL257 single rings as there is no recoil.

Has anyone used a 1 piece mount on the Disco?  Does it hinder loading the ammo?  Any input on the Burris or the BKL DO mount?

I used the cheap medium scope rings from Walmart.  both rings are forward of the loading port, leaves plenty of room for loading.  I found with the short stock the scope needed to be as forward as possible.  Using a Bushnell AR 4-12 side focus scope.  Good scope for the price, ranges well, but doesn't focus closer than 15 yards on full power.  The .223 long range reticle gives me aim points for 20,30, 40, 46,55, and 64 yards at 12x. The 30 an 40 yard marks double for 12 and 10 yards.

  pretty much any scope that fits you will work on disco.i put a 3-9x32 center point on it first.it worked well.then a tried a tasco world class 4-16x40 AO scope and it worked well.i have put a konus pro 3-9x32 AO on it and it works great.i keeping the konus on it,it hits where I aim it and is very clear.discos are scope friendly.

I have a Barska 6-24x50 on my 177 disco but the best setup I used for FT Hunter class last year was a Leapers/UTG 3-12x42 swat 30mm scope. shown below. I also setup my scopes ahead of the loading port for easy access.

The other issue with the Disco is that the barrel can move around very easily.  I installed a second barrel band towards the end of the barrel and shimmed it with a square cut from a soda can.  That took care of my low impact.  I also moved the barrel slightly to the side before tightening the band onto the air tube.  That took care of the side to side issue.  Didn't have to do much scope adjusting after that.

Guys I really do appreciate the input on the scopes you all have used.  Determining which scope to use is not my problem or question.  I was more wondering what rings, bases etc you guys found worked best for you.

Today I optically centered the scope that was on it and found that made a huge difference.  It is basically on plane with the center of the target now but shoots to the right.  Shooting to the right is normal for me with a long gun, to the left with a handgun.

So now that I know I won't need a drop compensator I'll buy the BKL 257 rings and she'll be all set up.

I probably will stay with the scope I am using as that model has served me well on my Henry lever action rifles.
I hope to have my muzzle brake on it in April and I also plan to order a Mrod AirMax Varmint in .22, maybe that
will hold me over until I can afford a Marauder.

Thank you for the input but I have used several of these overseas UTG / Accushot and other names and after my experience with the Gamo Bonecollector Bull Whisper I'll never use them again.  I spent way to much money on those brands.  Finally I found the Gamo 1 piece discontinued extra high mount which held together.  I would have saved a lot of money just purchasing a BKL 1 piece mount.  Granted they are $60 but the money I would have saved not to mention aggravation.  BKL is more money but they work, period.

you said for a disco?? not a heavy recoil springer.  mine didnt fly apart on my pcp's.

I used utg 2 pc. dovetail to weaver mounts , it gave me enough room for a green flashlight and red dot combo . Picture can be seen on GTA Facebook page under visitor post/pics .

BIG difference between springer/piston rifles and PCPs when it comes to scopes and rings.

I am aware the differences.  The Discovery has very small narrow grooves for scope rings & mounts.  I just feel mounts like UTG / Accushot won't hold.  The peace of mind from BKL is worth the money.   

I know the UTGs didn't hold on the last Gamo.  That thing shook it right off.

My favorite general scope is the UTG 4x32 AO mil dot that often is available for less than $50.00  I use it on most of my airguns. My disco (pictures below has a 3x9 on it that was a Kit scope .... In reality I would rather have the 4x32 on it because it is built better and smaller. I use two piece rings as I like the wide stance, I think it is more secure that way

Yes it is a Boyd's SS Evolution stock, I ordered it last June and I received it in August last year. If I was to do it again I would custom order with a longer length of pull, but my Wife loves it now since I bought the Airforce Talon.

As far as scopes go I agree the 4x32AO scope is a nice general air gun scope.  I have one on my 1077 but it's a Rex Optics scope.  I am assuming that it's actually a BS or made by the offshore company who makes BSA.  It has a fine duplex reticle not a 30/30 style.

The Simmons 22 mag AO is I nice 3 mm objective  scope that as I stated before I often use that scope on my Henry lever actin rim fires.  It's very clear even at 100 yards which I will view but normally not shoot.

The CenterPoint 3-9x40AO that comes with the NPXL series isn't bad.  The 1 that came on my XL1100 is fairly clear  &  currently on my Titan GP but the 1 on my XL1500 isn't as clear.   Both however seem to hold zero well.

I'd like to find a scope similar but I don't want illuminated reticle or 56 colors of illumination.

Anywho I am getting to like my Discovery more each time I shoot it.  I know once it gets a TKO brake & some trigger work it should be a fun, lethal rifle.
