Sheridan C9A factory solder or redone??

Looking to purchase this C9A, but debating on it. Not sure if this is what a factory solder would look like on a C9A? I know they didn't do work as well compared to a vintage Sheridan. I don't know if anyone else has a C9A that's showing this much brass to be able to determine. They guy does not know himself. Holds and shoots fine.

  Knowing what a good joint should look like,,I'd say it's most likely factory.   Solder wets out wherever the flux is brushed.   The joint has a very nice flow and fill to it that would be hard to do without an oven and fixtures.

agreed. that's definitely factory solder. snatch that gun up, and polish the snot out of it. all the hard work has already been done, for you.

I think it caught your eye because someone has removed the factory finish revealing the brass along with the solder joint.

Hi Rob,

It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks kind of like JBWeld to me. I used it when I repaired the barrel separation and front sight on my Benjamin 310. I cleaned it up real good and roughed it up a little with course steel wool before I painted it and don't remember the factory solder looking like that. I personally wouldn't buy it unless I could check to see exactly what it is?

I blew the pictures up and the edges of the bond look rough and smeared in. I might be wrong but it looks like JBWeld to me.

I used JB to repair a Sheridan over the summer and it's been holding up just fine. One thing that you can do as a test is to use a knife to scrape the surface of the JB. Will turn the gray to a lighter color

Ok, finally heard back from him. He confirmed that it's not JB Weld. I got a 312 that I also JBwelded the front post area. But on that the rest of the solder all the way back doesn't look like this c9a, as in you can't see access solder what so ever. Well I pulled the trigger on this one, another model of Sheridan I didn't have.

I thought it was JB at first, but the one obvious difference is the color. Not sure if different color JB comes out different. I used the red and black tubes and the cured product is a dark grey. This is clearly silver in color.

Definitely a dark gray when cured, you're right. The gun in question looks bit too light in color for JB.

The solder used on a 310 may be different than what's used on the Crosman guns? I blew up the middle picture on my phone and it doesn't look like a flow of solder to me. The JBWeld I used on my 310 cured to a light gray similar to the pictures. I think it looks lighter after smoothing it out with steel wool. Have you asked the seller?

He said he tried digging into it with his nail and it doesn't flake scratch or crack off. You are getting me worried Bryan, why you gotta do this to me? I've ready sent money now your gonna cause me to lose sleep tonight. Even if the guy doesn't know, the job looks good and the bottom price was very reasonable. He's got a page of BOI. If it does turn out to be JB I'll just go over the work if it isn't up to par. Also came with a tin of pellets and a seal kit. There is also a fiber optic front sight. I think I'm telling myself this to calm me down and possibly justify an accident, lol.

Well if it makes you feel better my Benjamin 310 shoots really great compared to what others say their's will do. The barrel was loose all the way back to the breach and the front sight was missing. It's been about two years and I've had no problems. The seal kit and pellets are worth at least $40 so you may be getting a great deal? I hope so any how and I don't want you losing sleep.

It's a roll of the dice even buying local. I bought a Crosman 262 for $60 recently and after buying parts and gasoline to pick it up I'm about $110 into it not including labor. Now it needs a new doughnut seal at the piercing pin. LOL there all money pits!!!

My 2cents: looks like solder to me. I just "de-soldered" the barrel and receiver from my 397 a couple of weeks ago, and it looked a lot like that. That to me looks a like a pro job, not the sloppy mess mine will likely be when I solder the receiver back on. If I'm you, I don't worry. Also if I'm you, and you're (I'm?) wrong about that being solder, I'd (you) contact you (me?) and sell it to you (me) for what I've (you've) got into it! See, wasn't that simple? I need a drink...and maybe a shrink!😬

All joking aside, that pic doesn't strike me as JB, but if I'm wrong and it bugs you, I'll give you what you've got into it, plus postage to me (me).

That's definitely solder, I've used enough jb weld and can tell right away that it's not jb weld.
Not even Jb kwik comes out light enough to become that shiny.
The color of the brass sorta looks like it was heated up as to be soldered, but the solder job looks so good that I would assume that someone used a stripping agent to remove the finish and it looks just as crosman left it before painting .

Well, just got her today. We can all be relieved to know it's definitely soldered. Haven't shot her yet I literally just opened up the box. The sight he put on the front isn't the prettiest thing. Definitely don't like the fact he filed the front post down. So without this plastic front sight you would need to make an alternative piece. Looking down the line it really shows up, wow. May not be pretty, but it works great. Ok, now looking over this gun it doesn't look to have ever been painted? I was for sure that I would see little bits of black in crevices, the air pump slot, the loading port, inside the etched lettering. How would somebody have this rifle pre painted? A worker who took her home before it went in for paint? I haven't taken the stock off to see if there is any evidence of paint.

They probably used a chemical stripper.
If you don't want the front sight, take it to a gunsmith, and have them make a new one.

Nice glad to here it is soldered. The sky is the limit with that front sight. You can put any sight you want on it or leave I as is?

I finally got around to playing with this new rifle last night. The other day I had mentioned I was cleaning sanding some gouges from the tube and barrel from the previous owner having removed and reinstalled the rear sight. I did the usually and banged the legs on the rear sight wider with a 10mm socket. I had to notch the rear elevation so it could be adjusted with a flat head.
    Here is some groups I did with her. I sighted in at top left and by top right I thought I had it figured out. Then when I get to middle that 1st shot was dead bull. Only to be followed with an eradicate group. Scratching my head??? Just when we're talking about how these .20 Dan's shoot so great. I must have jinxed myself. Upon further inspection I found the root of the problems. This rifle differently was painted and somebody did a great job of stripping it. I looked down the barrel to find the dreaded over spray. All that great work stripping this rifle of its original finish to have forgotten the overspray in the barrel. Now most of its gone I think just from it being shot for the 12 years of its life. So a little cleanup is gonna be happening tonight.
