Degassing Tool - Discovery

Hi Guys, well my Discovery made it into Mexico and to my front door ok but it appears that the Mexican customs officer that inspected my parcel also liked the degassing tool so much that he felt he needed it more than I would. So all in all I'm pleased it made it here and not so surprized with the fact that the degassing tool was stolen. 

So myself never having seen one of these tools.......what do they look like? Is there a common tool I could buy to modify so as to make it work with the Disco? What can I do to make one/buy one? I don't really want to order another one for the same reasons of loosing another one. tnx

Did you order one with the gun...they don't normally come with them?

I'm not sure I've ever seen one for the Disco...

I think it's just a piece of threaded rod like 10/32 or 8/32. (Whatever the end cap is threaded for) You screw it in and it pushes the hammer against the valve stem to open it.

My disco didn't come with one...neither did my marauders I don't think crosman sends them with guns anymore unless you order one. A disco one is different than a marauder degasser but you can always just dry fire until empty that's what I do.

If you have a little bit of mechanical skill, you might want to try making one from a bolt/screw.
On the other hand, I made one but never used it in the two (plus) years I have had my Discovery.

The Disco never came with a degassing tool put I do know at onetime the Marauder included a degassing tool. Not sure if they still do.

Beat you to it Norm.  When I got my Discovery in August, 2013, the tool was NOT part of the deal.  And if you order a Discovery from Pyramyd Air today, the degassing tool is extra cost.

Ok well that clears up some confusion. My apologies to the Mexican customs officers. I checked out Crossman's website from the link above and went to order the degassing tool and the dual fuel fill station but thankfully they don't ship to Mexico.......looks like only the continental USA. I later found this;

Will this work with my discovery for HPA from a scuba tank or similar? The price of under 20 bucks vs 120 bucks for the Crossman HPA filler looks very attractive

I've refilled my Disco twice so far with it and my scuba tank. Works GREAT and the price is excellent. I don't know if Amazon will ship to Mexico but the vendor is in Texas and very possibly would. Here's their customer service email  cs1@valuechainusa.com  . Ask them if they'll ship one to you. Taousa 70231 Scuba Fill Station with 34" air fill whip. Hope they will, MUCH better deal than the overpriced Benjamin one! It's $34!

Another trick I learned if you don't have a degassing tool, or you're using a rifle that doesn't accept one -

Hook up your fill tank and open the valve slowly until you hear the check valve in the rifle click (tank pressure is just above gun's pressure). Then quickly close the tank fill valve, and open the bleed valve just a crack, not too far or the check valve will slam back shut. This will let you completely drain the gun, typically over 20-30 minutes. And you can actually get it down to nothing, which is much harder when shooting it down. (Also, on some powerful guns you can damage the valve by shooting the valve with not enough pressure in the gun. The B50 was like that.)
