Nice work, guys. Mike at TKO, very glad to see a professional digging into this gun. I think it will be great to have an economically priced (and light weight!) PCP repeater!

I went back and reread the thread, things are a little more clear now.

I would really enjoy seeing a step by step disassembly/ reassembly tutorial, with some good pictures. As well as some tuning advice.
My trigger was working pretty well, by just adding a longer set screw so that I could take up the slack, still a pretty much single stage trigger, but really not bad at all, although not adjustable from outside.

So, Mike, do you still say that the gun must be degassed before the trigger guard screws can be removed? This is pretty important info.

How would you install a shroud with the forward barrel band / stock retention band in the way? I had thought about free floating the barrel, that seems pretty easy to do while still allowing the forward band to remain, for retention of the stock screw? I don't know if the barrel would be secure enough with the barrel band removed?

I just thought about the trigger. Is there not a pin in the way of being able to adjust the set screw from the outside even with a hole bored in the trigger? I had thought about boring a hole for access, then realized the pin is there to keep the trigger from swinging forward.

I can't say for sure, but I will degas before removing the trigger guard screw. The two stock screws do not have any valve retention duties.

I made the shroud for Mike's Varmint that seated against the barrel band... so I guess it's a "Half-Shroud".

I wouldn't remove the band as I think its position doesn't affect accuracy and helps the ruggedness of the barrel attachment in case of a hard bump or drop.

As mentioned in the first posting: on my gun, the trigger blade tip touches the trigger guard, which keeps it from pivoting too far, so I just removed the pin to allow access to the adjustment. You have to assemble the action to the stock while holding the action trigger side up though.

A more elegant solution would be to make another trigger blade with a longer trigger-to-sear section. That would clear the pin and make a better, more obvious 2nd stage because the fulcrum point would be further away from the 1st stage point. Setting the finger pad portion of the trigger more rearward would help ergonomics also.

Good to hear more feedback on this rifle. I'm still on the fence, but I'm really tempted by the sale price. I don't mind tinkering a little.

What's the barrel diameter at the muzzle? Did one of your off the shelf ldc's fit or did you have to custom make it?

Also, if it's not too much trouble, the next time you take it apart, could you take a few more pics and maybe to a quick disassembly write-up? Might help some of us that are new to pcp's. And what's the easiest way to de-gas one of these?

It would be great to see some photos of the half shroud you built.
I found a cheap moderator on e-bay for $20.00, (very light, and well made, but not cleanable) and I am planning to use some aluminum tubing to adapt it to fit the Varmint'

Mike, what do you think about adapting a barrel from a different rifle to fit the Varmint? I was thinking about a QB barrel? I don't know what the dimensions are. Please let us know how you do with the .22 in terms of making it shoot after the recrown, etc..

On the degassing, the manual just says to repeatedly fire it, but maybe there is a better way?

The mrodair website states that the varmint comes with an LDC. How effective is it ? You guys are talking about adding a shroud so is it safe to assume that its not very effective ?? Mike T you've obviously fired it so what's your opinion please.

No, I have not gotten my Varmint back from MrodAir yet! Getting a little frustrated.
They have had my rifle for about 3 weeks, and I have not heard anything from them about what they are doing with it or when I will get it back.
Does anybody else have trouble getting information from Mike?

I just received my varmint .22 today from them. I hope mine doesn't have accuracy issues like yours so I have to send mine back. They were silent when I asked them for tracking info about 3 different times as rifle was in transit. Mike seems cool but I'm not too satisfied with their lack of communication.

I just purchased a Varmint Air in .177. I emailed him yesterday and got a reply today. someone asked about an ldc or shroud for them, Mike told me to go through tko for it. Hope this helps a little.

This is my experience as well. I even called and he was short with me and said it would arrive the next day but it actually took another week... anyway the LDC on the plinkster works well. I dont know if its any different for the varmint...

No that stock LDC came off 2 shots after I fired it. I was able to attach my 2240 6.5" tko ldc and my varmint .22 is ridiculously quiet now. 😎

Will do and if I had longer waited a little longer to see how they treated you I probably wouldn't had ordered from them. One thing is to ignore questions about shipping information. Your situation is a lot worse because they should've just replaced your rifle by now.
