Used air rifles

I Like buying rifles that people say won't shoot. I recently purchased a Benjamin Trail NP2 22 that wouldn't perform. It turned out to be the pellets hitting the baffles in the shroud. There is a slight bow to the plastic baffle stack. I wonder if this isn't why there are so many mixed reviews concerning NP2 accuracy? The rifle shoots fantastic without the shroud. The best thing about this rifle though, is that it is like new and has a 4-16x40 centerpoint scope and I paid  $110.00 for it......

So couldn't you just make the hole a bit bigger on the shroud so the pellet wouldn't hit it?

I just ordered a new baffle from Crosman. If I remember, about $1.50 plus $4.00 shipping. Well worth the order.

Purchasing known good shooting AG's in need of service is one thing ... purchasing known turds hoping for something different is a fools gamble that has odds not in ones favor

The one before the trail was a Hatsan 95 vortex 22 that had loose stock screws...The scope hadn't even been mounted new in the box 125.00.....Before air rifles I used to buy powder burners. There aren't many turds out there if the price is right. At least that has been my experience

Simply drill out the stripper end,the second and third stage are not square and there will be skirt clipping
Many mods to come for my NP2,shooting under 70db will also happen shortly

The NP2 shroud is 1"OD,the stripper baffle is 1/2" ID and isnt bored square

Ok, I chucked the baffle in the lathe and bored it out to 3/8. This required a lot of cleanup with the exacto knife, but it cured the problem. The rifle shoots excellent and doesn't appear to be any louder. I have to say, this rifle is extremely loud without the shroud and baffle....I still wonder if this problem isn't at the root of all the conflicting claims concerning accuracy and the NP2. This rifle was bought as a refurb. by the person I bought it from and he couldn't make it shoot. Crosman could cure this by utilizing a new mold that would add a support ring in the middle of the baffle. I think it would be worth it to support an otherwise decent rifle. JMO

I love my NP2. Seems to be very accurate and got pretty quiet after 100 pellets. But it can always be quieter....

nearly all of my airguns are used, I wouldn't have most of my higher priced guns if I bought them new . There's a lot of projects in my collection but I'll get to them someday...

First its going to a very well respected rifle tamer to get worked over and relubed with Krytox*
I have another complete shroud and 3 shroud brakes waiting for its return
Im having some custom made F1 felt washers made up 1"OD X 1/2" ID X 1/2"(Starting with 10 of them) 
I dont have a real DB meter so the phone app will have to work to show DB reductions
Do I know what Im doing . . . . . . "nope"! do I have a few idea's? . . . . . YUP!

Have you removed the brake from your shroud ?
Pop it out and just stare at it for a few minutes,why did Crosman choose that design ?
With the shroud off and the brake removed,screw the brake directly to the barrel
Mark a center line with tape on the brake,either with or without the shroud
It wont center up,prolly not important but it kinda bugs me
Anyway,go back to staring at the brake and try to understand Crosmans use of V shaped baffles instead of the more traditional round disk
found in other well know LDC's.
I have a feeling I should have bought an entire box of the brakes
