You don't need the BDC reticle if your target distance is typically no more than 40 yards. With my 900 ft/sec springers I consider that the maximum range where I can hit a 1" target most of the time from bench rest. The trajectory is very flat from 15 - 40 yards as Chairgun will show you if you sight in at 18 yards and use a good medium weight pellet, 7.9-8.6 gr for 177. Less than 1/2 inch over or under at the most, that is within the best accuracy I can shoot. No need to start figuring out your mil dots once your target is in position - just aim straight on and shoot.Do not use the Crossfire in a magnum springer. I'd say anything above 16 ft/lb and you will end up with a dead scope within 1,000 pellets or so. I killed two on a Benj Trail NP XL. Good thing Vortex will replace it for you once you ship it to them. I have since replaced one Crossfire II with a Diamondback that is holding up better on the NP XL. Smaller, lighter, better clarity, available only with the BDC reticle I think.
