She came from Wally World, not by my hand. When I found her on Craigslist she was $40. She had a broken spring. She came with about 2000 pellets and an electrical box full of duct seal. Her first owner cast her aside.
I selected a Maccari tune kit, opting for the slightly reduced power version for smoother operation. She also got a Charlie the Tuna trigger.
Ten years later I have much nicer guns. I have a FWB124. This baby sits in the corner of the closet and hardly ever comes out to play. Why?
She cocks with the smoothness of butter and with so little effort it seems you're doing nothing. Cheap Crosman pellets zip out at 800fps yet the shot cycle is smooth and comfortable.
The trigger is very light if not exactly crisp, my CtT trigger tuning needs work. The group below is ten shots in a 3/8" spread from 50' garage range rested. That's a super cheap Powerline scope.
Maybe if I put a big sticker on the stock that said R7 I'd give this girl a little more attention. Still I don't think I'll be selling this one anytime soon.

I can't see it but you described my Gamo Shadow 1000 pretty well, except I bought at Wally world about 10 years ago and broke the stock instead of the spring. Put a new stock on it several months ago but just broke it out this weekend. Was my first basic tune. I don't remember what lubes I used, but it sure is sweet to cock and shoot. Right up there with my vortek kitted RWS 48. Gonna shoot a few of those 50 feet match targets just to see how it does. Mine also has the gold trigger.

I see it now. I keeping eyeing one at a pawn shop for $100.00. Gonna make him an offer next time I'm in there even though it's easily worth the 100.00, but I really don't need another.

Enjoyed your post very much. Those older GAMO rifles were definitely diamonds in the rough. They were good shooters right from the box and only got better with some attention. My first GAMO was a .177 Shadow like yours that I bought when I first caught the air gun addiction. I can't even count the numbers of starlings I took with that rifle, not to mention pigeons, rabbits and squirrels. I liked it so much I was in Walmart one day and they had 3 of them on clearance for around $50 and I bought all 3 of em. All 3 of em turned out to be just as good shooters as the first one.
I still have those 4 Shadows down in the gun safe. My collection of rifles has grown over the years and I usually forget to give those rifles their time in the backyard range or out in the woods, but every once in a while I do take them out and they still shoot like a dream to this day. I will never sell those rifles, they just have a special place in my heart... just something about them
Anyway, thanks again for your post..... brought back an awful lot of good memories I haven't recalled in a long time

I love my Shadow 1000, and shoot it all the time. I have several others, but to plink in the back yard or take a bird for the cat to feast on, I grab it first. I just feels right, and I have taken so many animals with that gun, and am so familiar with it, I could probably shoot it with my eyes closed and hit the target it you pointed me in the right direction and told me the yardage. But, seriously can a BMW get you from A to B better than a Chevy? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and my old "trusy" is a beauty in my eyes.

Not a darned thing wrong with a Gamo.....
Just had my hands on some new arrivals, older models though. I have a CFX I bought from Gene that is one of the jewels of my collection. If you will look at the monthly raffle (shameless plug) you will see a Gamo 220 outfitted with a fantastic work of art from Ed (shadow). And I will have some others in the near future either as monthly raffle or at the Fun Shoot in May for raffle. Some most excellent shooters and lookers!!!
For a while, they will sit along side my lowly Daisy/Powerline/Winchesters, my Crosman's and my Hatsan's.

Thanks all for the kind words.
For those with Shadows lingering in the closet. It's 50 degrees here, spring is right around the corner. Get them out shooting.
Craymar: $100 used? I would think no more than half that but what do I know.
If I ever get this trigger to work a well as some claim it's capable I'm going to get one of those Boyds laminate stocks unfitted and make it something special.

As mentioned by the family the older Gamo's are diamonds in the rough and have collection of older Gamo's myself. The Gamo 1000's were the one's to get your hands on back in the day , got several myself. The 220's, 440's, CFX's as well as the Vipers when full steel barrels were the norm before the plastic covered barrels came out. Many a critter has expired from my ole Gamo's and thinking there will be more in the future. Ed

That's a real nice group, Steve. My first pellet rifle was a Gamo Cadet Delta, and while it wasn't going to win any competitions, it was a rat killing machine inside of 20 yards.

Picked up a Gamo Shadow 7 years ago, luck of the draw the shop was out of the one I wanted, turned out to be a very good happenstance. Great shooter, and getting the GRT-III was one of the best improvement to the rifle.
