clean the barrel and shoot it.  don't worry too much about accuracy for the first 300 - 500 pellets.   be safe and remember your pellet rifle can seriously injure a person.

Most people run a few patches through the barrel and go to shooting.  First 100 shoots or so you may see a bit of smoke (Dieseling) Should start to settle down a bit.

Most people clean the barrel when they first buy a new gun to clean out the dirt, oil, whatever, from the manufacturing process.

Yes, they can be pellet picky.  My Diana 350 will shoot nothing accurately but H&N FTT 5.53.  The 48 by contrast is accurate with almost any quality ammo.  Don't get discouraged, there is a steep learning curve with springers, but the light will go on and you'll be glad you stuck with it.

This my own opinion on a new airgun barrel.  I would give a good scrub with a brass brush.  I use WD40 and that's me.  Others have used soft scrub or other types of cleaners.  Then clean it out with patches you may use Goo Gone and then dry patches.  I would use a pull through. If you get a barrel with baffles use a straw for the pull through.  One easy thing to do is to check the stock and pivot screws (if it is a break barrel) to make sure they are tight. 
Shoot a tin of pellets to break in or lead the barrel.  Don't use too heavy or too light pellets that may cause damage to the spring or piston seal.
I think that covers things to do to avoid any warranty issues.

Do check the stock and action screws for tightness, even on a new gun. If a gun has been sitting in inventory for a long time under widely varying temperature and humidity conditions, you can get a gun with screws that are a bit loose, right out of the box. Have had a couple such guns. For darn sure, regularly check for screw tightness as you are breaking in a new gun and do it as needed, with any springer for the sake of accuracy and consistency.

Buy a pellet sample kit from Straight Shooters to find out which pellet works best in your gun.

Don't be afraid to use a proper size brass or copper brush in the barrel from time to time to get the stubborn lead build up out.  You can run the rod down from the front if it is a fixed barrel gun and screw on the bush from the breech end and pull it through, in order not to hurt the crown.

Yes, NEVER LET GO OF THE BARREL (Break barrel), OR COCKING LEVER (Side or under lever) WHILE COCKING OR LOADING THE GUN!!!!

Other than that, maybe clean the barrel. After it gets broken in, you can decide if it needs any tuning or other work.

Clean the barrel, tighten the screws and shoot 100+ thru it before worrying about sighting, scoping or judging groups. Log on to the GTA and read as much as you can about de-burring and proper lubing. Build a spring compressor. Learn artillery hold. Find the gun's pellet. If you know what I just said, you're already ahead of the game.

Good advice so far. I don't know what rifle you have, but check the pivot for the barrel (or cocking lever) to be sure it is lubricated.

I would add, check your stock screws.  Don't go "mongo", but snug em down good.  You should be fine.  If you run into issues with accuracy and etc.  let us know.  The dudes here will steer you straight.

For now, just clean the barrel, check the screws, and enjoy.

I've yet to see a new springer that was properly lubed from the factory.... Their either under or over lubed using lubricants of questionable quality. I completely tune every springer from the git-go (ringed or buttoned piston, turn new TIGHT fitting guides, deburr fit & polish everything that needs it & trigger work) & IMO it's the only way to go. Makes the rifles last longer, they are much more user friendly & easier on scopes.

That's a full tune and then some.   I wish I had the toys to turn my on guides/ make custom parts if needed. I doubt he's ready for that yet.
