Gamo Bone Collector Youth Model- any reviews?

Anyone own this? Friend of mine is looking for his sons next gun. Not sure why he started him in Red Ryder but definitely need an upgrade.

Any review of it would be appreciated. Of interest is it's stated power. It's claiming 800 fps with 5.1 grain. The Crossman 2100 and Daisy 880 are 750 fps. The Winchester 77 claims 800 fps also but it made by Daisy and everything about it other than scope and stock is the 880.

Curious as to if it's actually a touch more power than traditional 880 or for big kids Crossman 2100. Same money as Crossman but kid size like the Daisy which is $20 less.

Other than that how's she shoot and any overall thoughts on this cool kids gun?

 I don't know about the Gamo, but I can straighten out your facts on the other  pumpers.

  The 2100 and 880 have exactly the same LOP and are within 1/2 inch overall length of one another. Both have a 20 inch barrel. Your average 2100 out of the box seems to shoot around 615 to 620 fps. Mine shoots 620. Your average 880 shoots 650 FPS out of the box. Some shoot as low as 620 and some shoot 700 straight out of the box. I have chronied dozens of 880's and can verify these numbers personally. These numbers are with 7.4 grin Crosman pointed hunting pellets.

  If Gamo claims 800 with 5.1 rest assured with a lead pellet it's around 580 to 590.

  Yes the Winnie 77 is just an 880 with a better scope, different stock, and slightly different fore stock grips.

  I assumed your big kids 2100 remark was due to the size. But the size isn't any different, and your average 880 out of the box shoots faster than a 2100 will.

  Daisy parts as well as Crosman parts are a phone call away. Gamo parts are impossible to get. Unless you have an FFL, or make your own parts as needed.

  I suggest the 880 personally of your choices. Easy to pump. Weight can be added to the stock as the child grows, and with mods can hit over 700 easily with 7.4 grain pellets, and about 800 (794 is my average) with a few more mods at 15 pumps.Using the existing Daisy parts. No need to buy aftermarket parts.Or parts from other guns.  So it can grow with the child.

  Or for $60 the Daisy 901. Outshoots a 2100 out of the box all day long, same internals as an 880, but a synthetic stock . Personally, if it were my kid, even though I have 11 (had 17, thinned the herd some) 880's here right now,and only 2 901's I would buy him a 901. Esy to pump, real nice stock, silly accurate out of the box.

My comment on the 2100 for big kids was from memory of what I saw on Pyramyd Air. I looked again and see your right and I've faulty short term memory in my 4th decade. 2100 is only 2 inches longer and 1 3/4 pound heavy. Not as big a difference in length as I'd thought.

Talked with a rep on their chat earlier and they said the advertised fps of Gamo was not at all accurate. I was set on 880 myself but the boys father doesn't like the synthetic receiver and likes Crossman two stage trigger.

 Well call me confused  . Why interest in the Gamo if synthetic is a problem?

   But I get it, we like what we like. Me... I like pumpers. Some more than others. If those Gamo's were cheaper I would get one to play with.

I just bought a 2100 for my 11 yo son. He has been shooting my 766 for a few months now and has no problems handling it. Him and I shoot together every weekend in the basement and he needs very little if any help from me with it. After the first tens mins he had it down and was good to go. He is smaller framed and the 766/2100 fits him decent and he has room to grow into it. When he gets a little older I will step him up to a springer or gas piston gun. -
